Well There Ya Go...

Okay folks…

I am giving up bread and pasta, and the such for Lent, but evidently that isn’t good enough for a handful of you.

I hate to punch down, but in this case I feel the need.

So, this an open letter to those of you who feel I am not giving up enough…

Dear Head Up Your Ass,

You are bordering on the brink of taking every little bit of fun out of Lent. Yes, I know I’m not Catholic, but I do so enjoy this time of year.

And…

It pleases me. I enjoy showing some self-discipline. However, I have none where jerks are concerned.

Especially ones who have some uber-competitive feelings toward me. (For whatever reason)

Listen…I have been told in the past that fish was meat when I was giving up meat…blah blah blah, by you and others.

WTF?

Who the fuck are you to tell me what I give up and what I don’t? That’s right…no one.

I have held these feelings back for awhile, but this year I am not only purging my body of bread, I am purging it of folks who have unfounded issues with me.

If you have issues with me, don’t say, “we”…don’t say “us”. I’ll address any issue and take criticism better than anyone.

Stand Up, Man…

Cheers!!

Matt, I know this sounds a bit cliched, but you know there are people who are going to run their mouths about what others should, ought, need be doing. If they are so sure what need, should, or ought to be done -- LET THEM DO IT AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!! Yeah, I said it. I feel you all the way Matt!! Double Cheers to ya!!

Schmoop said...

Bobby: Ahhh Michelle...I do that often, but I get to the point where I say shut up. It takes alot for me, but when I hit my point, I have to say something.

I am one of the most patient people in the world, but after awhile, even I grow tired of others being assholes. Cheers Michelle!!

Besides, they ain't paying no bills in Bagwine!! Ha. We all have our opinions, but some people can go toooooooooooo damn far. Whose business is it anyway? Yours and Sweet Jeebus!

Schmoop said...

Bobby: But that isn't the point...I quelled myself from saying anythingfor a long time, but to continue to do so would be akin to me not saying that I didn't like the health care bill or this bill or that bill. Eh...that ain't me. Cheers M!!

I think you should have posted this LAST night. I was irritated FOR you and I don't even participate in Lent. It's one of those MYOB kind of things, I think. Who cares what you give up and what your reasons are? It's YOUR thing, no one else's.

Tug said...

Holy cow...I'm lurking for awhile & missing drama...can't say I miss it.

Do what's best for YOU Matt. That's all that matters. Haters will always be haters. I understand getting it off your chest, & good for you, but bottom line? Do what YOU want, and what's best for you. Hang tough...you're awesome.

Schmoop said...

Lady: I know, and I appreciate your irritation, but things build up and things added on to things today. Oy...I try to be the peacekeeper, and sometimes, that isn't the best course. I may be sarcastic and all that but I try to keep everyone happy..I could do it on this point no longer. Cheers D!!

Schmoop said...

Tug: I know that, but as I said, I am a pretty "let it roll off your shoulder" kinda guy, but this time I just couldn't. I had to say something. Cheers Tug, and always nice to see ya!!

So, do I comment now, or wait until morning and see if a war breaks out here. Or do I do both. Decisions, decisions.

You know, now that I think about it, it would be fun to be the one who handed out the lent assignments and told each person what to sacrifice. Of course, we all know I would make all men give up sex just to try to give me a better chance for a few weeks.

Some sacrifices seem harder than they really are. Others look really easy, but might be hard for that individual.

I don't really think questioning someone's choice of what to give up for lent (or their motivation) or mocking it or anything like that is constructive at all. But, some people find it hard to be supportive of anything.

Now I think I understand the situation a little better Matt. After reading a few of the comments on your post yesterday, I got busy doing other things and then went to bed. I didn't bother to read all the comments. However, as you can see, you and Jay have a lot of support and encouragement.

Cheers!!

What did I miss??

Well Matt-Man, I too have given up something for lent...... My Mom Living in my guest house. What a glorious, hmm I mean what a sacrifice it was when she moved out Wednesday.

I think you gave up way to much. You could have just said to 'hold the pickles' on your big mac. BTW I had two big macs tonight. Mine AND yours.

I haven't been very faithful on reading blogs lately..life has gotten in the way and I hate that I have missed the drama..But I always get a kick out of your lenten sacrifices and came over to check what you are up to this year. Personally, for me authentic lenten sacrifices are between me and my God and not to be bragged or boasted about for all the world to see, and certainly not up for debate or approval. That is what is fun about your cyber lenten scarifices. I know they are real for you in your own way but I still enjoy your playful attitude about it all...now I am gonna go have me a piece of warm hot buttered french bread..

its alarmingly common for people who comment on a weblog to think they actually have a say in the writer's life choices.

it is somewhat amusing.
whiskey tango foxtrot for sure

I love a pissed off Matt-Man. I freaking hate people who are holier than thou no matter what you do or say. I love when the vegans argue amongst themselves about fish and eggs. Some of the ones over here are really hardcore, I think it’s the lack of protein that gets them all pissy all the time……uh oh…..sorry. Bwahahahaha. Life is yours to live my friend. Personally, I'm proud of you!

MysteryChick said...

Matt-Man, sacrifice what you want whenever you want. I wish I had your willpower.

As far as those idiots you are referring to...opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they all stink!

Michele said...

Wow! Not eating bread products is making you cranky.

Are these the same people that are not giving up anything?

Schmoop said...

Jay: Well...I have no witty retort. That was a very thoughtful comment Jay. Well done. Cheers Jay!!

Bobby: Oh I know...the majority of people in general and specifically the ones that stop by here are aces. Cheers Michelle!!

Al: Ha. I feel your your gloriosity..er...I mean pain. Cheers Al!!

Schmoop said...

Mike: Ha. I appreciate that. PLease keep me informed as to your bread consumption so I can live vicariously through you Mr. Mike. Cheers!!

Snugs: Ahhh. But there is a bit of difference with my sacrifice. My "giving up" of things isn't at all between me and my God. It's between me and myself. Announcing it to the world puts me on the burner which helps me to keep my promise. Enjoy the bread, dammit. Cheers Snugs!!

Schmoop said...

Kat: I know but here it has not been a real problem. And I must say, it was a bit more than this that set me off. Anyhoo...I feel better now and shall not be pissed off by this much longer. Cheers Kat!!

Scott: Dammit Scott. Both you and Jay have left me unable to be a smartass. Thanks for the comment, I dug it. Cheers Scott!!

Schmoop said...

Chick: Thanks hot stuff. I do have much willpower but never put it to use. That's why I use Lent to at least use it six weeks a year. Cheers Chick!!

Michele: Ha. Cranky is not quite right...Perhaps "fed up" is the correct phrase in this instance. And if those in question are giving anything up I have no idea. But maybe they should. And I have several suggestions. Cheers Michele!!

Anony: I wasn't talking about sir. Check your email. Cheers!!

Wow - what chutzpah to critique your sacrifice. Personally, I think you've made a massive sacrifice considering how much you love mac&cheese. In fact, when I was at the food store yesterday, I stopped by the hot food deli and bought a serving in your honor. I figure if I'm eating it then your sacrifice becomes more meaningful. Ok, kick ass with the bitches and keep us updated.

Phfrankie Bondo said...

...where's Rodney King when we really need him?...

Schmoop said...

David: Damn Right. I want you to eat mac n cheese everyday in honor of me. As for the Bitches? I'm over it. Although I may make some more spiteful comments on here today. Cheers David!!

Phfrankie: Didn't he die? And if he did, the world can no longer get along. Cheers P-Man!!

Beth said...

I totally agree with you! You've held back a hell of lot longer that I would have. Oh, and sorry about the donuts.

Schmoop said...

Schmoop: Your fuse is microscopic compared to mine, but yeah, the donut thing? I think that may be tomorrow's post. Bitch. Cheers and Zoves, Schmoop!!

Schmoop said...

Schmoop: I'm going to start calling you Bob Ross, because I think in your twisted mind the donut thing was a "happy accident".

You're so cruel...That being said, will you show me later just how cruel you can be? Cheers Schmoop!!

Lent: It's not just for Catholics (and this comment is not directed at Matt-Man, it is directed at those who seem to think the Christian world orbits around them.) Other Christian denominations observe Lent as well, which ALSO includes prayer, penitence, and alms-giving. Go ahead, look it up. Maybe the asshats criticizing what Matt is NOT giving up should take a good hard look at what THEY are (or are not) doing?

Hey, Anon, go fuck yourself, eh?

Schmoop said...

Rat: You're the best and you are more importantly, quite correct. Thanks for the interjecton. If only I had a picture of you in the shower, my life would be complete.

Seriously though...Thanks for what you said. Cheers Rat!!

Oooooo .. that was savage blow right to the gut! How will you ever make a rhetorical recovery from that shot? Just stay down Matt. Don't risk getting hurt any worse. hahahah ;-)

Ken said...

Jay: You really did want to see a good fight huh? You'd make a GREAT referee.
I was the first anonymous knowing Matt would know (he knows all and e-mailed me imedietly)but I wanted to keep under the radar of all his new visiters for some stupid reason. How fricken lame is that?

Jay said...

Mickster: Yeah, I knew he knew the first Anon. And I'm just mocking the second anon in my own charming way. haha

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

I think I made him upset is what I think...

Ken said...

Vinny: I thought I might have been the straw. Maybe you were the brick.

Anyway isn't this FUN?

Ken said...

I should take that fun part back.....

As long as Matt can roll this all off his back, we're all good. But if he really has a built up rage and it's eating at him and one day of no bread set him off, we as his friends better be REAL careful not to hurt his wittle feelings any more. ha ha ha

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

I will take your lead there Mick...do we storm the castle or retreat and build up our reserves for a main assault?

Ken said...

We need to chill, sip some Rose, have a puff, ponder and wait.

Schmoop said...

Jay and Mick: I appreciate your attempts at levity.

Bond: Yes this was about you. Have fun stormin' the castle!

Cheers!!

I will curb my tongue here

I apologize in public as you took my attempts at humor as personal attacks on you and your decisions.

In the end, I know I would have a difficult time doing reviving the Lenten Rites of my childhood.

Good luck

Oh man, I was gone for a day or so and WTF? Who says only females have drama?!? ;)

You're a saint Matt-Mann and I think you're awesome and it's great that you do *something* (like give up things for lent) rather than just sit around year after year drinking Wild Irish Rose and scratchin' yourself.

If however, you decide to give up your sense of humor for Lent (or for any other reason) one year - well then I'll sign in as anonymous and heckle you! ;)

Love 'ya!!!

desert rat said...

Isn't "Have fun stormin' the castle" a line from "The Princess Bride?" Mark Knopfler did the soundtrack for that, you know. Jus' sayin'
