--Bill O’Reilly on Dining with Al Sharpton at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem
A big brouhaha has developed over the above remarks uttered by Bill O’Reilly. Cries of racism are ringing throughout the media world, and folks are piling on O’Reilly faster than a pack of dingoes on a bloodied bandicoot.
Being a big fan of O’Reilly because
Matt-Man: Welcome to Bagwine Ruminations Mr. O’Reilly.
O'Reilly: Thanks. You should be glad to have me.
Matt-Man: Let’s cut to the chase. Rick Sanchez of CNN, Keith Olberman of MSNBC, and others are jumping all over you for your alleged racist statements in reference to eating at Sylvia’s Restaurant. What’s the real deal?
O’Reilly: Listen…What I said was NOT racist. I was pointing out to my millions of listeners that black people are just like us, and that they are NOT representative of the hip hop culture promoted by Ludacris and 50 Cent. The looney left-wing media outlets are portraying it as something sinister.
Matt-Man: I think most people realize that 50 Cent and Ludacris aren’t representative of the majority of blacks in this country, much like Dick Cheney is not (fortunately) representative of most whites. Couldn’t you have just stated that?
O’Reilly: Matt, my viewers and listeners are much smarter than the average American. Sure, they may eschew their common sense and accept every word I say without question, but they also demand concrete, first hand evidence. That is why I once again demonstrated my typical selflessness by dining at Sylvia’s.
Matt-Man: The extremes that you will go in order to get the facts are simply amazing.
O’Reilly: Indeed, and the oddballs on the left forget that this isn’t the first time I’ve done something like this. Back in 1999, I dined with the last known living relative of Montezuma at a Mexican restaurant.
Matt-Man: Really!? Why did you do that and what happened?
O’Reilly: I wanted to prove to right thinking Americans that the Hispanic culture wasn’t defined by Erik Estrada and Menudo. We, I forget if his name was Pedro or Quetzalcoatl, ate at a place called Taco Bell. I couldn’t get over the fact that it was like any other white eatery. I ate a burrito which, if you don’t know, is like a Mexican falafel, and we, you know, had a good time.
Matt-Man: How were the people?
O’Reilly: I was blown away. The folks working there were incredibly Caucasian looking. They even had American sounding names such as Hank and Tiffany. There weren't 16 people to a table and I didn’t hear anybody say, “Gringo Go Home” or “M-fer, I want more Agua.”
Matt-Man: Amazing. Before we go, is there anything else that surprised you about your dining experience at Sylvia’s?
O’Reilly: Just a couple of things. I was amazed how many of the black folks passed on the Fried Chicken and Watermelon platter, and opted for the Meat Loaf Dinner. It was strikingly American. And the last thing, if my viewers want to patronize Sylvia’s, the staff actually knows what a credit card is and they know how to process your bill with them. Black folks are really making strides.
Matt-Man: Well Mr. O’Reilly, thank you for stopping by and debunking any idea that you are racially and culturally ignorant. It’s been a pleasure.
O’Reilly: Of course it was.
There you have it folks. Bagwine Ruminations has once again gone the extra mile in search of truth and justice. Cheers!!
NOTE: I have yet to hear back from the Iranian government as to my proposed tour of their country. When and if I do, you’ll be the first to know. Well, I guess the second or third, but you know what I mean.

Bill O'Reilly is a real douche, but I sometimes think people make a really big deal out of nothing. I think he was trying to comment on the misconceptions people have about black people all being thugs and gang members.
I cannot believe I just defended this fucking idiot.
108: I cant either. Are you on drugs? Cheers!!
I can't believe I missed this!
Of all people on the earth, he said it regarding Al Sharpton.EVERYTHING is turned into a racial remark with him! If I discussed the difference between Lorna Doone's and Oreo's he'd twist it into some sick racial bias.
Some people are born to stupidity. Others take it to great heights with experience.
Don'tcha just hate when people pull out the race card? Could O'Reilly seem any more racist if he tried? I'm not attempting to defend him, but I understand the spirit of what he was trying to do. Of course, the smart thing for all is for everyone to just SHUT THE HELL UP about it to begin with! The more one denies, the more guilty one sounds. D'uh!
Perfect post about Bill. Oh how I loathe that man...
I don't so much loathe him as I loathe the mouth breathers who give him power.
And yes--who gives a rat's ass about this guy? How is he relevant other than as a yellow journalist? What has he ever done to improve the world?
Metalmom: Oddly enough Sharpton has been quiet on the issue unlike when he trashed Imus. Cheers!!
Songbird: In the spirit of what he said? He was SURPRISED by how well them there negroes behaved. Ugh he's such a puke.
TB: Anyone who has a nightly national TV show and Radio show, and spews bigotry and misinformation is hardly irrelevant. Especially when some people take him seriously. Cheers!!
Schmoop: Well he is so very loatheable.
ya know, I would much rather read bagwine than pick up the newspaper.
Laughter is much better for me than anger over the unbelievably stupid things this man says.
Lisa: Why thank ya very much. Better to blow stuff out of one's nose through laughter than have an artery blow up through anger. Pack Your Bags!!
okay...I'll get to Bill in a minute... I thought you may be interested:

Odat: Thanks for specifying!!
I pay no attention to this man what so ever. I can honestly say that I've never even heard the mans voice.
Not so sure Ahmadinejad is gonna let someone from California come visit…
don’t piss off Arnold
This is what I get when I try to type something when I'm trying to run out the door. I understand that bias comes about because people think those who are of a different race/religion/culture are very different than they themselves are. We're not really different - we have different customs. We have different practices. We might even have different skin colors. But we all breathe, we all need to eat, we all worry about our kids, and we all hate those who would seek to harm us.
THAT is what I meant.
Gawd - I'm so frickin' sick of people trying to make everything about RACE. Just shut up and live - Life is too damn short to get caught up in this STUPID CRAP.
[[climbing back down]]
And what the hell is up with me and my men friends today?! First Greg gives me shit, and now you're raggin' on me.
Think I'll go back to bed.
Sigh.
Dixie: You are one of the lucky few. Cheers!!
Katherine: Oh it will be alright. I received an email from them about who to contact about getting a Visa. One step closer!!
Songbird: If I was a woman, we could lose our clothes and have a hot sexy cat fight over this. Cheers and Meeeeow!!
I read about this yesterday. What a lovely, open-minded man that O'Reilly is! (Yelling to son: "Hutton! Bring me my m-f'in latte!" Taking sip and returning to normal state of mind.) WTF is wrong with this man? And why do people actually WATCH him and LISTEN to him on TV?! Gotta go, whitey bitch needs more latte.
He´s such a puke. Puke, btw. excuse me while I puke. ;)
Cheers!
Laura: Some are born assholes others practice at it. O'Reilly has the benefit of both. Now go drink your Latte you cracker ho.
Sanni: You are quite correct. Cheers and know that I am sending a mop to help you clean up the mess.
Even conservatives hate O'really
But everyone seems to keep watching.
I think he is a tool that brings up valid points then totally ruins the moment with his holier than thou pontificating.
"The band was excellent, but they were dressed in tuxedoes, and this is what white America doesn't know, particularly people who don't have a lot of interaction with black Americans," he said of Baker's show. "They think the culture is dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg." Bill O'Reilly, Sept 2007.
Now that's talent. Bill O' insults both black and white Americans in the same quote.
Somehow I think we can have an intelligent debate about race relations in this country without Bill O's assitance or input.
Hammer: Good point. Foot in mouth disease can be so detrimental. Cheers!!
Travis: Ha...Excellent!! Two insults in one quote. Cheers!!
I about hit the floor when you said that the patrons of Sylvia's passed up the fried chicken and watermelon platter. Mostly out of shock. I've never known a black person to turn down either of those things.
;)
Allie: Ha, I always knew that you and O'Reilly were related. Cheers Sexy!!
Sorry matt! You have not debunked the idea that he is racially and culturally ignorant. I agree with the above comments ... who the hell listens to this shitbag?
matt-man, I know you're just goofing around. But what really btohers me is how people just join in on the bashing and smearing without even bothering to find out what really happended/what really was said.
I could take or leave O'Reilly, but at least I bother to find out the truth before I criticize or agree.
People bash him while admitting that they never listen to him! Huh? Then how do you know what you're talking about? You don't think for yourselves? You just take other people's words for things?
This is a big problem in American, on a daily basis. People just follow opinions or rumors and don't bother to check things out for themselves.
If anyone is interested in the real story, I found a link to the actual broadcast.
The broadcast is found about 1/4 down the page on this link, and it's dated Sept. 25th.

Be informed!
OK, back to regular broadcasting...
Cheesy: I have failed my friend. Woe is me. Cheers!!
Kailana: First of all thanks for stopping by, and I agree with much of what you say...
I agree that many folks from all political spectrums are mindless automotons who arent concerned about the facts of a situation.
For the record, before I make a post, be it serious or satirical, research the topic and try to know of what I speak. I lstened to the tapes and read the transcript several times.
I even watch O'Reilly and others who I consider to be wrong headed because it would be incredibly boring watching and listening to people with whom I always agree.
Cheers!!
This guy is amazing. In his own mind he is trying to teach Americans. Listening to the broadcast I am amazed that he begins the segment by talking about how there is prejudice because of what kids learn at home, then he spews his hatred.
Bond: He's peach isnt he? Cheers Vin!!
Being a fan of some of the hip hop music, I find that Papa Bear not only insulted African Americans, but also White Americans who are not smart enough to realize that Ludacris and some of the other members of the hip hop culture are ACTING. Its a facade for petes sake.
And then of course, its like he just discovered Sylvia's, like its a new find and not a soul food institution.
Sparky: You are right. Hell why didnt O'Reilly come out and just say it. "My audience is made up of morons." Cheers!!
Idiot...that's what he is.
CRaZy: Dont sell him short, he's an Incredible idiot. Cheers!!
