It’s a gray, gloomy Sunday here in Bagwine, Ohio. The weather may be far from sunny, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t help a few folks out, have a little fun, and find out how bright you are at the same time.
A few months ago, an organization called Free Rice, began a campaign to help feed the world’s hungry. Through something as simple as asking people to come to their site and test the mettle of their vocabulary skills, Free Rice is making a difference.
Here’s how it works…
1. Click on the answer that best defines the word.
2. If you get it right, you get a harder word. If wrong, you get an easier word.
3. For each word you get right, we donate 20 grains of rice to the UN World Food Program.
It’s that simple, and to date it has resulted in raising nearly 12 Billion grains of rice. That will feed a helluva lot of people. Personally, I wish there was an equal amount of red beans to go with the rice…But that’s just me.
If you have some free time, click on: FREE RICE and let your gray matter do the rest. If you need further reason to go to the site, listen to the song below.
It features the inspiration of Anndi, lyrics from Travis, a wonderful arrangement and the incredible vocal stylings of yours truly.
Cheers!!
NOTE: Listen to Turnbaby’s BlogTalk Radio Show tonight at 8 P.M. I hear she has a special guest in the form of a former Big Apple guy of Italian descent. Why is that a big deal? He’s NOT doing time. For details, click HERE.

*gigglesnort* I got lewd and obscene as words - are you sure they are giving free rice??
Dana: Yes they are; they evidently knew that it was you, and gave you words that you are very familiar with. Cheers!!
Worthy cause. I've played it a bit too trying to build up a good amount.
Hammer: You're a good man Mr. Hammer. Cheers!!
The problem with playing that game is stopping, and since I'm on a brief break before heading out to mass, I'm going to have to go there later.
Sorry it's so gray and gloomy there; not even sure if the sun is up here yet! (It's only 7:25, so maybe it's just now rising.)
Toodles, dear.
It is addictive. Yeah, the gloom...I don't mind cold weather, but a little sun would be nice. Toodles and Cheers!!
Free Rice is a very noble idea. But couldn't they mix it up a little bit? Like Free -fried- Rice? Free Beef with Broccoli?
Worm: I guess generosity and charity do not come al a carte. Hey...that was pretty good. Cheers!!
That’s neat, Matt-Man. Thank you.
I “earned” 400 grains before I decided to click back here and get on with the morning.
Nick: No, no, thank you. Have a great day Nick, and Cheers!!
love the video... merry Christmas (late).
Topchamp: Thanks...Thanks for stopping by, Merry Late Christmas, and all the best for 2008. Cheers!!
Thanks for the public service anouncement. Great job to all three of you.
Anndi the rice pimp has really been on a cool campaign with this one.
Jeff: You're welcome. And yes, Anndi is such a rice pimp. I may get her a gaudy fur coat, a pair of spiked heel boots, and a funky hat. Cheers Jeff!!
Earned 500 grains for the cause...is that good, MAtt-man? The words were very hard! I've done this once or twice before...I could make loads of rice pudding for all the rice I've accrued...:)
Oh and btw I've done my predictions for 2008, you might have a laugh if you visit: Work of the Poet
Teach: Yes it is. Thanks for playing. Have a great 2008, Mary. Cheers!!
Teach: I'll be by Ms. Nostradamus. Cheers!!
It's a great cause and I vow to have my total at 50,000 before the new year dawns
Hope you'll be there tonight and thanks for pimping me!!
TB: 50,000 what? Men? I'll be there my dear. Cheers!!
I say again, great job on the video!
I played this morning and did my 1000 grains. I may have to play again later today.
Cheers my good man!
Travis: Thanks. Cheers to you and the Bengals are actually winning. I don't care if it is the Dolphins, that's an accomplishment for them. Ha!!
Only us Canadians & Americans would look for something to go with their rice. Millions of people are just happy to get plain old rice!
I've been playing that game for a month now with my granddaughter.
Not only does it feed people...it improves our vocabulary.
Now...I didn't mean you..Matt-man...your vocabulary is great!
(if you're in the mens' room).
Here's wishing you & your family a happy, healthy & prosperous New Year from my home to yours.
Tonight I will try to listen to blogradio if I have the right time?
Matty: I was just kidding about the addition to the rice. Have a safe and prosperous New Year as well. And the time for her BlogTalk Show is 8 PM EST. Thanks for stopping and Cheers!!
Dammit, now I want Red Beans and Rice!
Starr: That is one of my Lenten favorites. Cheers!!
Ah yes Lent :P
Starr: Can I lick it out of your belly button?...Oh, Lent. Cheers!!
See Lent is where the Catholics loose me. They had me at Mardi Gras and I had to toss them to the curb the next day. Of course I work for them and the fish smell every friday from our cafe doesn't help! Fasting and me are just not sympatico.
Starr: How about me doing you "fast" everyday? Would that be sacramental? Cheers!!
Nice cause and great song!
Peace
Because you sang for me, I shall go off and play the game, should I get addicted....you realize I shall blame you...red beans would be nice to go with the rice though.
Odat: Thanks my dear. Happy New Year!!
Sassy: It can get addicting. Enjoy and yes, red beans rock. Cheers!!
Sigh.
I missed the show. I'll catch the archives. But I do love the rice game. It's totally addictive.
Happy New Year, Matt!
