So here we are. Our 44th President will be installed into office today.
A black man from Hawaii who trekked through Harvard and settled in Chicago will be residing in Washington, D.C. at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
America has come full circle and finally grown up. Well, most Americans have grown up.
Today is Barack Obama’s day…as it should be.
However, my message today is directed towards the 10 percent of you ideologues on the far right and the far left.
My message to you…Suck it up and get the hell over it.
To those of you on the way out right, Obama is not Satan.
He is not a Manchurian Candidate manufactured by Al Qaida that will bring our nation to its knees.
President Obama is not a lapdog for Arabs, blacks, or domestic terrorists. He will not try to convert your children to Islam.
He's not going to try to revoke the Second Amendment and take away your Smith and Wesson dick extension.
Well, to you I say...
In between watching re-runs of Dukes of Hazzard, waiting for the reincarnation of Jefferson Davis, and sucking back some Budweisers…
Why don’t you get off your ass, love your children, and when you go to praise Jeebus on Sundays remember what Martin Luther King, Jr. once said:
“The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"”
Let go of your prejudices Mr. and Mrs. Jughead, and start thinking outside of your double-wide trailor that is full of six kids in diapers and 3,000 conspiracy theories.
Getting this country out of the doldrums of our economic plight will require more than Obama. Obama is a smart and decent guy, but he needs the help of all of us.
Nuff’ said to you guys…And now to you out there on the far left. I proudly call myself a Liberal, but I share something with Barack Obama…
Much like the O-Man himself, I am first and foremost, realistic…thoughtful…pragmatic.
Don’t expect Obama to part the Mississippi River and deliver us all to the Promised Land.
Three months into his term, mortgages will not be paid, jobs won’t miraculously appear, and he will not change the name of fish to, Sea Kittens.
And, as I told the far right, he's not going to, nor should he, take everyone's gun away. Deal with it.
And, our troops? Due to the the sheer logistics of things, they will still be in Iraq for a couple of years to come.
You want our troops home; Obama wants our troops home, but unless Captain Kirk shows up with the USS Enterprise, it’s going to take some time.
I know that you want it your way or no way, but now is the time to give a little here and there on some issues.
Keep in mind what Lady Astor once said:
"The main dangers in this life are the people who want to change everything or nothing."
I have every confidence that Obama will work his damndest to make us a better nation and try to perfect this union, but one man is, but one man.
You too, like your brothers and sisters that are diametrically opposed to you, need to put away the hankies and think about the nation as a whole.
With that being said, I would like to leave you all with a couple of inaugural themed pictures…
Yo, Jill Biden...I know your hubby is a heartbeat away from the Presidency, but when he's off attending the funerals of third world dictators...
How about meeting me in my bedroom and being a heartbeat away from the Matt-Man? Purrrrrr...
Oh yeah, I'm diggin' this. Buh-Bye, Dubya!!
Good Luck, President Obama. I'm gonna make fun of you, but I'm wishing you the best of luck. Godspeed, my good man.
Cheers!!

coming to you from the far right of the left coast...lovin' my kids...not on my ass....
as of tomorrow Obama will be my president of my country...he is not satan...nor is he the second coming.
Obama has my prayers(mine and Big Ricks)...as well as my complete and total support. If he does not succeed, we will all suffer greatly.
I love your little pervy ending. It seems so fitting after a fair minded rant!
Yes, we will be in Iraq for many more years.
Our taxes will go up, but that's the result of a deficit plus a bail out. The money is going to come from somewhere ---us!
Whether they get it from us in taxes on gasoline and cigs, or increased copayments in Medicare and Medicaid, or whether they cut out funding for the arts and everyone has to start paying more out of pocket --it's coming.
Well said Matt. As you know I am also a Liberal but like you I think of myself as a thinker first and an ideologue way on down the line at like 5th.
It's time for all those people on BOTH sides who have spent the last 8 years flapping their jaws about this that and the other to put up or shut up. It's cock or walk time as my wise mother would say.
I think America needed this depression -cause that is what it is people - as a sort of mental and moral kick in the nuts.
Thanks, Matt-man for a great post. Maybe I say that because that is pretty much the same way I feel about today and our new president. Normally, I lean towards the liberal side but every now and again, I do a flip on some issues and am a bit of a conservative too- just not a right-winger. But the problems facing him -and us, as a country -are such that no way is he going to be able to wave some magic wand and make 'em all disappear and the only way the will every be done away with too is if all of us, from every faction here, comes together and tries to do something, anything, each in our own small way, to help as well!
Hapi: Awww thanks. That made me happy.
Kat: Pfffft. I never considered you to be on the far right. I'm talkin' bout the nut jobs on the right, Kat. It is now or never, though. Cheers!!
Kanani: Ha. Thanks. May my perversion never die. And you're right times are going to be tough. I've oiled the wheel on my wheelbarrow so I can easily carry my worthless dollars down to the grocery store. Cheers!!
Starr: I am a Liberal as well but also a bit of a Libertarian. And you're right while it's not easy on people it could be an effective kick in the pants. Cheers!!
Jeni: Thanks and quite well said, yourself. I just hope that the majority of us can put away long held ideologies and start thinking anew for solutions. Cheers Jeni!!
Budweiser? Have you lost your mind? The damned bicameralists bought that! It's Pabst or bust!
My biggest fear regarding Obama is that many of those who voted for him have also set him up for failure. I do hope this isn't the case.
"Obama is a smart and decent guy, but he needs the help of all of us."
Well said. He isn't the devil and he isn't the second coming of Christ. He is the man who will hopefully do his best to lead us out of these difficult times. He loves this country as much as I do.
I am willing to put my support and faith behind our new president - because, really, what choice do I have at this point.
Oh I Keed, I Keed! :)
Dana: Pabst Blows...But then again, so does Belgianweiser.
As for Obama...He doesn't strike me as the type of guy who allows himself to fail, let alone at the hands of others.
If people cannot balance their optimism with realism, that's their problem. Obama will continue on with his duty and leadership. Cheers!!
Karen: Ha. I think his pragmatism, activism, and confidence make him a good person to be at helm of our country at this time. Let's see how it goes. Cheers Karen!!
I'm just so glad that Bush will be down at the ranch forever instead of the 1000 vacations that Obama just has to show up to make me happy.
Anyone who thinks that he is going to reverse all our ills ASAP should come down to Earth. It took FDR years and a war to get America back in shape again and it's going to take Obama time also. Big shout out to you Matt-Man for reminding us to give him that time and our own efforts.
Ah Matty--don't forget that the scarier 'haters' are the ones with power and money. And they are waiting and watching.
Michele: Thanks alot, Michele. And you're right, we are only on the cusp of some of the worst economic times most of us have lived through. The climb out of this hole is going require all of us to stand on each others shoulders in order to get out of it. Cheers Michele!!
TB: Maybe so, but...There are far more of us good people than those of their ilk. We just never seem to realize it or do anything about it. Cheers TB!!
Wow...our posts contain different words, but are spot on to each other -
Nicely done Matt...
Bond: Ha. I noticed that as soon as I read yours. Right back at ya, Vinny. Cheers!!
I think I am going to repeat your suck it up and get the hell over it line a few times today to my rabid republican co-workers!
Change has come, oh happpy day!
Songbird: Why thank ya. And as for your ass? Get off of it; bring it over here, and I'll do something with it. Cheers!!
Snugs: Ha. You can repeat what Tom Brokaw said this morning,
"After covering the South in the 60's and the Watts riots, and other things...Take that, you rednecks and bigots."
I never envisioned that line coming from Brokaw, but I love it. Cheers Snugs!!
...Jill...Michelle...Jill...Michelle...Jill...Michelle....and Pabst most certainly does not "blow"!...
Phfrankie: I like your taste in women, but c'mon...Pabst? Dear God, Man!! Cheers P-Man!!
...this coming from a man who imbibes Milwaukee's Best?...sheesh!...
Phfrankie: Milk Best is in a word, The Best. No, seriously. Schmoop? Comment and defend our choice in beer, dammit. Cheers Phfrankie!!
Milwaukee's Best is a damn fine beverage indeed. Why it's bread in a can!!! Really good bread....mmmmmm beer.
Very good post my dear, and I agree, it's going to take all of us.
Schmoop: Damn right it is. Take that Phfrankie.
Thanks Schmoop and when I get off work tonight, I am going to do my part and "help you out". I am, after all, a giver. Cheers Sexy!!
...while I most heartedly agree that "beer is bread", I feel obligated to remind you that Pabst is no ordinary beer, no sir, Pabst is "Blue Ribbon" beer!!...take that, youse two....
Phfrankie: In honor of Obama's inauguration, I will come together with you and embrace you and your affinity for Pabst.
Just don't drink it while I am embracing you. Cheers!!
It would also help if the media would focus on somebody other than the far right and far left whack-jobs. They put those people on all the time with the intention of creating controversy dividing people. That another thing that the other 80% need to try to get changed. We need to stop putting up with a lot of things, but our media needs to stop sucking.
I think most people are a lot more realistic about what is needed. A lot of the over the top excitement is a combination of people being so happy that Bush is leaving AND excited and hopeful for Obama.
Jay: I don't blame the media. It's their job to get ratings and that is why they have the types of people on that you elluded to.
Histrionic, monocular, over the top shows are what many Americans want.
It is the job of the viewer or radio listener to wade through the crud in a thoughtful manner. The media owes us nothing.
We owe it to ourselves. Cheers!!
I plann on wearing black lace today in mourning, it should fit well down here. Hell,I may head to Key West, they should really be celebrating down their, the Messiah has arrived
Jebus Chrip, I should not drink this early...."Plann" "down their"....fvck it!
"Bartender, glove me abrother"
Hoot: Mourn all you want Hoot. If this President or any other has such an effect on your outlook, you are simply not in charge of your own life. You are your own problem, not Obama. Cheers!!
It is the job of the viewer or radio listener to wade through the crud in a thoughtful manner. The media owes us nothing.
We owe it to ourselves
you are right on mateo...that is SO important. But it is even more important that people like you...and jay....remind people to "wade through the crud" because in the glare of the spot light and fireworks...some intelligent people forget what the media gives us is NOT gospel.
and other people are just stupid.
( I know you don't consider me too far right...I just like to stick up for the conservatives...and dana hadn't arrived yet....smile)
and I'm wearing black lace too....but not for the same reasons (or the same place) as Hoot...
It took this country years to get into the mess it's currently in, so no one is going to be able to fix it in a matter of days or even months. But I have much hope that Obama is going to put the wheels into motion and we'll see a much improved country by the end of his term.
Kat: Your simpler statement is more true than the other...Some people are stupid!!
And so you're Conservative? There's a big difference between that and being a left or right wing nutlike Olbermann and Hannity. Cheers Kat!!
Giggle: I think if things come together we will see improvement. But you're right...It will take AT LEAST one full term. Cheers GP!!
conservative on fiscal and foreign issues....more liberal on social issues..
and you are totally spot on...AT LEAST one term to see any real improvement.
Kat: I am typically on spot. Is there any spot on you that you'd like me to be on? Please? Cheers Kat, off to sell potables!!
I said it would help, not the the media is required to do anything.
But, I think I could argue that the "news" shows do have an obligation to the truth and honesty. So, when they have Ann Coulter or Michael Moore on, it would be nice to see them actually challenge some of their bullshit.
Anyway, the inauguration was awesome. Roberts flubbed up the oath, and Lowery totally made Warren look like a moron. Beautiful.
The speech was great. Don't know where it ranks with the all-time great inauguration speeches, but it was good.
Lowery moved me to tears and had me clapping in my cube like a crazy woman.
It's mighty...uh nice of you to let him know you are going to make fun of him; HA!.
Awww...let's give Bush just one more chance... ;0)
Of course those far rights suckin' down Budweiser? That's a foreign beer now...
I am not a TV watcher of much but I was BLESSED to have this historic day to be my day off. I have been glued to my TV and weeping with joy and hope. We have jumped another hurdle into the age of equality. I wept for the fact that we as a nation have elected a man of color but not only that. I wept for the fact that we as a nation elected a man of substance. He will hopefully be loved by this nation with not only their hearts and patriotism .. but also their patience.
Amen to your post my friend!
Jay: I agree. Too many guest and talking heads get a pass by some moderators. As for the speech, I thought it was pretty damn good myself.
I just got bits and pieces of the entire inaugural, so I'll have to check out the stuff you are talking about tonight. Cheers Jay-Man!!
Dianne: My, how you never fail to arouse me. Rowwwrrrrrr. And damn right, let's get crackin'. Cheers Di!!
Starr: I haven't seen that part yet, but I agree. You are a crazy woman. Cheers Starr!!
Lu: Well, I like to be somewhat fair before I begin to torment others. Cheers Lu!!
VE: Yeah, let's do that......not. People who drink beer haven't a clue where Belgium is, so it doesn't bother them. Cheers VE!!
Cheesy: Thank ya hot stuff. And I couldn't agree with your patience part more. Cheers to ya!!
I try. Sanity is so over-rated ;)
Starr: Actually it's you, I and others on here that are sane. It's the others who are crazy. Cheers!!
My idealism and my pragmatism often go to war in my head and it makes my loopy.
