Keepin' It Real

Last night I got an email from a reader.

She is allowing me to publish it, and discuss the topic, because her and I bantered about it.

She asked…

Why did you use the word, “pussy” so much in your post and comments today (2-4-09)? Do you think that calling a guy, a woman is an insult?

First of all…yes, yes I do.

And, any guy who says he doesn’t make ANY reference to a guy being a “pussy” or a “girl” is lying. Ninety-Percent of us males do it.

However…

She relayed to me that using the word “pussy” is an affront to women.

She implied,…if you are calling men, pussies, that states that women are weak.

I have two words for this chick…

Fuck Off, Bitch!! Okay, three. But, anyhow…I love women.

If it wasn’t for women, I’d be livin’ in a van down by the river. Thanks Schmoop.

My point is…

This came up Monday. I like women…I like men…I like everybody.

I just don’t like assholes. It’s that plain and simple.

And if you need further proof…Check out the following video that is full of love and …well, love!!

Have a lovely Thursday all. I am pretty happy, because Ryno got some decent grades.

Cheers!!

Yay Ryno!

What's up, wench? I use the word pussy to describe any coward or wimp, male or female. It's a cat not a woman's nether region. Get it effing right! Sorry, I went all librarian on her!

Congrats to Ryno!

As to the word pussy, I'd take the person more seriously if she said she was affronted by the use of the word rather than speaking for women in general.

I believe that I am part of the 1%.

Nice tree. However, I would rather see out my front window than look at an artificial tree all years.

Congratulations to Ryno!

Hugs and love to you, too, my friend.

Who are these pussies that get so mad about the wordy pussy? Sheesh.

Nice tree. I'm sure the "Jay" heart is there, you just didn't show it so nobody will feel left out and get their feelings hurt. Like a pussy. haha ;-)

Don't be such a dick about using the word pussy.

Wonder what response THAT would have got...I'm trying to decide what I would have liked less...

I am not affronted...
and I am all woman.

from wikipedia...
Old Norse - pūss (pocket)
Old Saxon - pūse (vulva)
Old English - pusa (bag)

The medieval French word pucelle referred to a young adolescent girl or a virgin, although this comes from a slang term for virginity puce (= flea) rather than referring to cats (but cf. French chatte (female cat), a current vulgarism for the female pudenda).

In the 17th century, the term was also used to refer to women in general. Philip Stubbs, an English pamphleteer, wrote in his 1583 book "The Anatomie of Abuses" that "the word pussie is now used of a woman".

It has been informally suggested in folk etymology that it is a shortened form of the word "pusillanimous" which is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "showing a lack of courage or determination" or cowardly. This meaning would seem to be consistent with the intention of the word "pussy" when used as an insult toward a man. This term, however, comes from the Latin words pusillus (petty) and animus (spirit) and is unrelated to the Germanic derivations of puss and pussy.

I need a hobby.

The word pussy has never bothered me. I use it frequently to describe a man or a woman. I even call my dog a pussy when he gets scared of the smaller dogs at the park.

Liz Hill said...

I'm all woman and it doesn't bother me--of course I'm rather well versed in the use of incredibly vile slang myself so....*grin*

I never call anyone a pussy. I call it like it is...

Vagina face and Penis head.

But I wonder...where are the decorations for Black History Month? You could have at least put up a pic of Obama for making all the history this year to date.

I zoves Ryno and his bad ass grades.

Love the tree, I assume the condom hanging on it will stetch out to real ACTUAL size.

I'm all about context - an art that appears to be lost in this shortened attention span, PC for the sake of PC world.

And intent.

In the context of your posts given your intent for comedy and satire and sarcasm I find very little to be wrong.

And when I do find something offensive I get the fuck over myself and stop acting like a pussy. Even though I can be a dick and get my tits in an upoar.

Hmm I am a woman and I have used the word. It is crass but perfectly descriptive. Usually used to describe a weak person or chickenshit individual. I don't know about the gal you were emailing about this but I am not as physically strong as men. I am strong but most men are much stronger so the word would be correct in my case. I am not however chickenshit, shy but not chickenshit.

I love the tree, good job Schmoop and the song is delightful :)
