Sunday Morning Church Disservice: Why?

It’s going to be some kind of day weather wise on this Sabbath in Bagwine, Ohio.

I say “some kind”, because I haven’t checked the weather forecast. Eh, I’m off anyway so no big deal.

For today’s Sunday Morning Church Disservice, I once again, invoke the soul and the words of my dad…‘cause well, I need them right now…

Why?

Why do you seek to destroy
all that I build,
knowing full well
that time alone
would serve instead,
and once the pillars rot
and the castles fall,
you would not be burdened
with a sense of guilt?

Why do you taunt me
with practical things
nor realize that all dreams
must someday be shattered,
and falling to earth,
awake each man
with the thunder of mediocrity?

Could it be that deep inside
you cannot watch me suffer
the pain of one
who strives for the stars,
and struggles,
day by sad day,
up a ladder without rungs?

Amen, and Amen…

Off to see Ryno this morning and then after that, who the fuck knows?

Have a wonderful Sunday, all.

Cheers!!

There is something quite amazing about having the comfort of your father's words so close when you need them most!

Enjoy your time with Ryno!

I know that you know this already, but your father was an amazing poet. I know exactly what he meant. Give Ryno a big ass hug tomorrow, even if he hates it, because we have to love what we DO have. Because, otherwise, what the fuck is the point?

Jack Mahoney is still watching over you (and Ryno too).

I always enjoy your father's poetry and let's just say the prose-apple did not fall far from from the tree.

Dana: The best thing was that I rediscovered this poem while sitting on the can. Double the pleasure. Cheers Dana!!

Dish: Funny thing about Ryno...While at 15, he thinks "he's all that", he never gets embarrassed by his Mom or I hugging him or telling him we love him even in front of his friends. I like that. Cheers Dish!!

Mike: Of course he is, and typically, he's probably saying, "Oh dear God, what have I wrought?" Cheers Mike!!

David: You are always too kind when speaking of my writing. Thanks. Cheers David!!

I wish there was something I could say to make it all better, but we all know that's not possible.

Hugs from your kid always help and for what it's worth I'm sending positive thoughts, love and hugs your way.

I was finding this really touching until I read your reply to Dana.

Seriously though. I agree w/ Dana. It's great that you have your father's words to help and comfort you whenever you need them.

Jay: Ha. Even in our darkest moments with any luck our true self can still shine through, as it did with the bathroom line. Cheers Jay!!

Go play with Ryno. It'll make you feel better.

Michele: Been there done that. He had me rolling as always. Now I am home and he went to Grandpa's to eat steak...well, probably three. Cheers Michele!!

Your dad must of had a lot of battles he was fighting inside, while bringing up nine kids. That whole last line tears me up.

Ken said...

I forgot, it must have been a nine rung ladder.

Schmoop said...

Micky: Yeah, the last line is pretty good and good point, Mick. Maybe it was nine rungs. In fact, I'm sure it was. Cheers Mick!!

WTF?! My computer crashed in a BIG WAY, so I've been arm wrestling people for computer time in the hotel lobby and haven't had a chance to visit you. I'm sad. I hope you're doing all right. Send me an email, if you can - or want to - so I can come up with the appropriate words of wisdom - or at least sympathy.

Big Hug!

Rat: No worries...Things will worl out, but I will get a hold of ya. Glad you are somewhat connected. I miss ya. Cheers Rat!!
