I want to thank you all for your questions yesterday. I asked you to do something, and by God, you did it.
I had a great deal of enjoyment answering you, and it was great fun.
Today, I have to leave to the coolers of potent potables and sell beer to the masses…
So today, I leave you with some simple words that I wrote years ago…
Beneath the purpling, swirling haze of Autumn
The languid cry of the last cicada
weaves a dirge with an orphaned cricket
As fields lie barren from stream to thicket.
I thought of this poem because my mom thought, although it was incredibly short, it was one of my better ones.
Why did I think of her and that poem?
For some reason, yesterday, I thought I would call her. She has been dead for over two years.
For that brief moment in time, I had forgotten that…yet I was going to punch her number.
Oddly enough yesterday, I got a call from my sister and one of my brothers too. Four people. Connected.
That’s all I have today. But, this is a mere respite in my satirical duty to you guys. I have to work all weekend but I’ll be posting.
You know why? Because that’s how I roll.
Seriously though, I owe each and every one of you a debt of gratitude for stopping by yesterday.
On second thought, I don’t "owe" you a thanks. I thank you because I want to.
I hope you all have a great weekend, and of course, my friends…
Cheers!!

that's how you roll...warm and buttery...
your poem has a bit of ending to it. this memory and how your family connected just proves she lives on...
Sometimes I still get the urge to call my mom, and she's been gone 23 years. Go figure. At least we don't have long distance charges, eh?
Peace out, my friend.
the poem is lovely, a bit haunting, I like that
the photo is astounding! where did you get it? tell me you took it.
I think you owe me (and Kat) something for our efforts yesterday! You did get the video, right?? *wink*
Kat: Yeah, she does and rarely does a day go by that I don't think of her for some reason. Cheers!!
Songbird: Isn't it odd? Have a lovely weekend dear. Cheers!!
Dianne: Thanks. I wish I could say that I took it but I just found it in a Google image search. Cheers Di!!
Dana: Rats...No I didn't get the video, dammit. Someone else is pleasing himself while watching it evidently. Cheers Sexy!!
Love the poem. It's funny how some things just seem to slip our mind. While certainly on a different scale I drove over to see my brother last week in our hometown before I realize he moved to Florida 3 years ago. Have a wonderful weekend, Matt-Man!
Lady Jaye: Ha. Yes it is funny. Have a fan-damn-tastic weekend yourself, gorgeous. Cheers LJ!!
Dig the poem Matt. Wow to forget your Mom has passed on, what a gift and a tragedy!
Happy Weekend to you, Matt-man!
Lu: It was kinda funny. I was thinking about something funny at work and said to myself, " Ha, I ought to call Mo-." And before I finished I said, "D'oh!!" But once again, as always, thinking of her made me smile. Cheers!!
RLL: Well you gorgeous thing, you. You do the same. Cheers!!
The pic and the poem...exellent!
Roll-on Matt-Man!
Micky: Why thank ya Mick. I have a knack or just dumb luck finding pics that go well with my posts. Cheers !!
That was a lovely poem, Matty =) I don't think it was a coincidence that your sibs called you. Maybe you mom just felt like waving at you all from the beyond. Sometimes I swear my grandmother is talking to me.
It's interesting how just conjuring up the idea of your mother somehow puts you in contact with the family.
What a lovely post today. It sounds like you are in good spirits. Cheers to you Matt-Man.
Starr: Why thank ya. And it's nice to get call from those who have gone before isn't it? Cheers Starr!!
Knight: Thanks Knight. Evidently I am surrounded by good spirits. Cheers to you too!!
Oh buddy I so relate. Even tho hubby has now been gone 13 yrs [and I have a great guy in my life now] and Dad 3 years~ I STILL go for the phone when something I think they would think funny crosses my mind or I need some help of some sort. It happens not as often but it still makes me grin a little that I still depend on contact with the 2 men who molded me into this nut I am today. It's those times I NEED contact with the others in their lives that also may need to be "touched" by their memory. Embrace loving the ones that have left before us!
Cheesy: I hear ya, you adorable nut. This certainly wasn't the first time it has happened. Have a great weekend Cheesy. Cheers!!
Evil: With eight of us left, we are somewhat close but there are definitely cliques!! Thanks for the kudos and have a fun-filled weekend. Cheers EG!!
Have a great weekend. I'll be gone most of it, but I'll be back here on Monday to see what I missed.
Holy hell matt-man...169 comments yesterday? That's insane. That's more than twice my highest comment count!
Nice poem too...thank God it rhymed because I cannot trust a poem that doesn't rhyme...
Oh, and I called your Mom. I've got the local, long distance and Beyond plan on my phone. You can get it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. She says hello but that you've been neglecting your flossing again...
That is a beautiful poem. Your mom must have been thinking about all of you too.
I have a question, I have a question ....oh damn I am too late.....
nice poem, search 'poems' in my blog or 'balloon' you will read some I wrote...if you weren't such a decent writer I wouldnt keep coming back!
Marilyn: Have a good weekend Marilyn. See ya Monday. Cheers!!
VE: It was a banner day yesterday. Y'know what blows? I have the same phone plan and all I ever get is Mom's voicemail. How'd you get through? Cheers!!
Fiwa: Why thanks. She was a good woman. Cheers Fiwa!!
Doggy: Why thanks, I may do just that. Cheers!!
You owe me nada man, besides, I missed the whole thing anyway. Damn!
Now, if you would have called your mam and she answered...that would have really been something!
I am SURE I sent the video...check in your spam folder....
are there pointers on the video?
It happens to me when Chicklet does something that would have Mom laughing.
Moms work in mysterious ways buddy... she hooked you up with your sibs yesterday.
Jeff: Well we missed you too, Jeff. Yeah had she answered, man, I could have wound up on Oprah. Cheers!!
Kat: It's not there. Man, I am bummed. Cheers!!
Teamster: A teamster needs pointers? I'm shocked!! Cheers!!
Anndi: Yeah, and I really wish she would stop that. ; ) Cheers Anndi!!
It is a special joy to me that my Lady and my mom have become such good friends. While I was in NY last week, Mom came up and the two of them spent three days together doing girl stuff.
They giggled together.
That gives me a warm fuzzy, you know?
I hope you're having a nice weekend Matt-Man!
EnjoY!
yeah. I call my mom. In my sleep, in my dreams, when I don't even know I'm doing it. Sometimes, when I am really in need- she answers.
it hurts sometimes, doesn't it?
Travis: I completely agree and understand Travis. And I know that same feeling. Cheers!!
Michelle: Same to you, and tonight I'll be sure to drop by. Cheers Michelle!!
Vodka: I do the same thing, but I have said this before. Whenever I think of Mom or Dad, while it's sad that they are gone, those thoughts typically make me smile or even laugh. Cheers VM!!
