Obama and Iran: Less Is More

I was on hiatus...But I couldn't help myself. I'm pissed...

Okay, I have had it with the attacks on President Obama on this Iran thing.

Outraged Americans, specifically Republicans in Congress, are livid over the fact that Obama is not doing more to help the Iranian people cast aside the yoke of a repressive regime.

Two words for these empty headed, have no idea of geo-political history morons…

Blow Me!!

McCain (R-AZ): “Obama should be stronger!!” Lindsey Graham (R-SC): “He is timid and passive!!” And the best:

Mike Coffman (R-CO): (and I paraphrase…but not much) “Duhhhh, I dunno, but the President should do something; it will help our country.”

For these walking, talking, play to the Neo-Con and AIPAC crowd, four more words…

Shut the Fuck Up!!

Maybe not so much Coffman, who strikes me as a complete and utter bonehead…

But the likes of McCain and Graham are lying through their teeth if they think Obama is not striking the correct chord on this issue…well, unless they’ve lost their minds.

The worst thing that America could do right now, is say that we will vociferously support this leaderless band of protestors.

The United States cannot, at this point, interject itself into a nascent revolution that dwells within a country that has a less than a happy face history with our nation.

Lessee…Iran had a freely elected government in 1953 and then we initiated a coup that toppled it and replaced that government with the ever-loving, man-of-his-people, Shah of Iran.

We funded his brutal SAVAK goon squad, who mercilessly quelled dissent among the Iranian population as he fed us oil and regional camaraderie through the term of several America Presidents, until in ’79, he was overthrown by the Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution.

And then, to add insult to injury, we supplied Saddam Hussein and Iraq during the Iran/Iraq War!!

Yeah, Iranians just love it when America gets involved in their politics. Our backing of any reformer who would step forward in Iran right now, would be his kiss of death.

Many Iranians certainly want more freedoms, as they should have, but they do not want to necessarily rid themselves of all theocracy, and especially rid themselves of it at the hands of the once-again intruding Americans.

In all likelihood, the Iranians calling for reforms are more than happy placing their future, not in the hands of a U.S. style of democracy, but in the hands of a man named, Akbar Rasfanjani…a powerful, more pragmatic cleric, but a cleric, nonetheless.

Are we going to back him publicly and give him the kiss of death as well? Huh? Are we McCain? Are we Graham?

Save your partisanship for other issues and think about the future of the world with a free and nuke free Iran, not about scoring points by feeding your right wing constituency the red meat of another military expedition.

It’s time to grow up and realize something important. The world does not always revolve around the United States and what we want.

Sometimes, we are in orbit with and around what is best for other nations and the world.

Obama recognizes that fact, so in this case he isn't acting like, as some mockingly call him, The Messiah; President Obama is acting more like Copernicus.

Cheers!!

Kat: I watch and listen to news all of the time. This could be a historic time and yet some folks are putting ideology ahead of changing the course of repression. Cheers Kat!!

Jay: That is dead on correct, and yet we hear:

It's all about us dammit. How will it affect us. Everyone should be like us.

If all peoples were living in an environment in which they enjoy, whether it runs contrary to ours or others, all people would be relatively happy, and as a result the world would be a more peaceful place. Cheers Jay!!

You know as well as I do that when comes to US involvement in foreign affairs, it's damned if we do or don't, depending upon the party affiliation of the seated president. Whatever. Pick up your paint roller and ignore the news as Katherine suggests. It'll be better for your stomach.

A huge part of the problem is endemic to their thinking--if it doesn't look precisely like what they perceive as 'normal' then it frightens them

Songbird: Just as Sherwin Williams "Covers the Earth" with paint, I cover the news while I am painting...Plus this has been festering since watching the events unfold on Saturday. Cheers!!

TB: And therein lies the biggest difficulty for humanity to overcome. Cheers TB!!

Ohhh ... come on Matt-Man! You liked it when the Dems said idiotic things about George W, you should find it equally as heart warming when the Repubs say idiotic things about Obama!

Dana: Au Contraire...When you compare apples to apples as far as Bush and Obama go in a matter of interjecting the U.S. into the affairs of a soveriegn state you are incorrect.

In fact, my comment about agreeing with Obama's current tone and the fact that he is avoiding direct intervention in Iran is consistent with my having wanted Bush to not invade Iraq.

Cheers!!

..."speak sofly and carry a big stick"...that's what Obama is doing, and it is exactly the right thing to do...

Phfrankie: Damn Right...And the less often one uses their power, the more powerful they become. Cheers P-Man!!

What are you talkin' about? We are the USofA and the world all needs our help...

Remember, before the USofA, there was no real world...it was just a bunch of indigent people looking for a big bright glowing brilliance to follow and then - BAM there we were.

What? the rest of the world was civilized for thousands of years before Columbus became the first NASCAR driver and made a left turn?

Well they were not AMERICA Civilized...so they could not have done anything important.

Can we try and correct our problems before we go running off to save some other civilization please?

Yup....what Bond said!

You too Matt-Man.

What amuses me to know end is that Obama is taking the same flack that George HW Bush took when the Communists were crumbling in Russia.

He didn't go all hardline and was attacked by his own party for not swinging his dick like a blowhard. But Daddy Bush was smart man who knew that chumming the waters would likely damage the cause of democracy. History proved him right on that one.

I think you nailed this one Matt-Man.

There are some bright GOPers who care about the best interests of the USA but Lindsay Graham strikes me more and more like a petulant politician who just wants to be obtuse and obstructionist.

you haven't seen much from me on this subject, not that I have no opinion about what is going on, I just see no solution to the problem.

I wanted to thank you for your comment on my post, but a question for Toshi... I have no idea where that came from.

now asshole, lets find something to fight about. :>

Well, I happen to think Obama is a giant fly swatting (gasp!) dildo with ears ;), but I agree with you.

Why can't we should just stay the fuck out of their business?

Schmoop said...

Bond: No, no we can't fix our own problems first. That requires effort. Involving ourselves in the lives of others (with detrimental effects, no less) is so much easier. Cheers Vin!!

Mick: Damn right and Boo Yah, Mick. Cheers!!

Starr: History? Who the hell pays attention to history? Oh I know. NO ONE!! Cheers Starr!! ; )

Schmoop said...

David: Thanks. I think it only makes sense. As for Graham...He has turned into a, "Whatever O-Man Says I'm Against It" kinda guy. Cheers David!!

Charlie: You're welcome and I mean it. But I must set you straight on something. I never fight, I merely point out and correct the mistakes of others. See? I just did. Bada Bing. Cheers!!

Candice: Two things...No matter what YOU think of Obama, you're still hot. And number two?

Don't be dissin' dudes because of their big ears. I take that personally. Cheers!!

Candice said...

I don't knock guys with big ears. It gives us ladies something to grab on to.

Yeee HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Michele said...

You are absolutely totally right. We need to tread very carefully on this one. And when I say we I really mean President Obama. The last asshole President got us into Iraq by shooting off his mouth.

Travis Cody said...

Agreed.

This uprising belongs to the Iranians. Let them sort it through themselves. They don't need us, and I'm sure they don't want us.

Schmoop said...

Candice: Go Cowgirl Go!! Cheers Candice!!

Michele: Librarians are so damn smart. Cheers Michele!!

Travis: I agree especially on the "they don't want us" part. Cheers my good man!!
