Under The Milky Way

Hands…bloodied and chapped by the winter and a dry perspective,

each keystroke is struck with cracked hands and a sullied soul.

His heart adulterated by his cynicism and acrimony,

each letter is cast in hopes of finding a happier place.

A place that doesn’t exist.

And, with each tap on the keys and bilateral railing of his lungs, his breath of hope escapes him

Walden, Nirvana, and God Himself cease to exist.

How could they, after all…

He doesn’t know what those places and faces look like.

Nor do they know him.

He takes a deep drag on his cigarette, laughs at his self-pity, and

blows away his life;

and the typing never ends.

Cheers!!

That was deep.

Feeling a little moody blue tonight? Cheer up :-) Good poetry, anyhow.

Sounds like the Matt-Man was sitting around, drinking and smoking and got all deep and introspective on us tonight. ;-)

Beautifully sad, my brother. While Walden and Nirvana (at least the important one) may be dead, happiness, hope and even God are very much alive. They live within you, so just seek within yourself and you will find. Close down your mind and destructive thought patterns and just BE.

Can you tell that I’ve been reading Deepak Chopra again?

Matt, there are two times in the year that I get all sappy, (1) is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, -- I lost my mom on Christmas Eve, (2) is around this time (February) due to the significance of the month. I start watching documentaries about the 60's. We lost some major American icons in the 60's -- JFK, MLK, RFK and Malcolm X. I get all melancholy, sentimental and cry a lot Here's to ya -- Cheers!!

Micky: Ha. That was pretty good, but keep in mind...you're gettin' yours on here tomorrow. Cheers Mick!!

Bobby: Thanks Bobby...I am not despondent or anything I was frustrated or whatever last night. But my down moods while they can be intense, last only briefly. Sorry about your mom. When my dad died some years ago it two days after Christmas.

One good thing about February. Since it's Black History Month at least one channel usually shows Mississippi Burning. God, I love that movie. Cheers BBG!!

Were we channeling each other last night? We both posted poems. At least yours was original.

I hope you are feeling more upbeat today. Thursday is your day off; that ought to be good for something.

Doc: Anytime. I dig The Church and this song, although I prefer Unguarded Moment. Cheers Doc!!

Dianne: It's amazing what 11 minutes of introspection and a good beer buzz can spit out. Cheers Di!!

Michele: Ha. I saw that. My brother found a copy of my dad's first book of poetry so, I'll be putting some of those up soon. And yeah, I'm in a pretty decent mood today, thanks. Cheers Michele!!

Phfrankie: Ha. Good One. You and Mick are on it today. Can I bring Tennyson with me? I dig Tennyson. Cheers P-Man!!

Nicely done. Our introspective poet is back with us and a bit moody too. All good poets seem to have mood swings...well, duh, like everyone else I guess.

Schmoop said...

David: Why thank ya. Not my best work but not bad for a drunk, eleven minute rant. Dylan Thomas might have liked it.

I have a few poems published over the years but haven't written any seriously in ages. I may get back into it. I miss doing that. Cheers David!!
