A Treasure Trove of Memories

Monday and Tuesdays are my 11 hour work days so I have little free time on those days, however I do have a brief post for today.

As many of you know, Schmoop’s mom passed away a little over a week ago. The day after she died, Schmoop and I went up to her house to visit with Dave and another brother.

Amidst the conversation, Dave said that he had to start getting rid of all of the “stuff” she had acquired over her 86 years.

Me, being the incredibly nice guy that I am, was more than happy to take a couple of things off of Dave’s “to get rid of” list.

I immediately spied two things that to me, were “must have” items.

The first item, is a plaster/ceramic/hardened magma kinda birdbath/ bird feeder…

Is it not beautiful? Who wouldn’t a gopher/woodchuck/whistle pig with a sunflower on its head displayed prominently in their abode?

I thought no one would refuse such a piece of art, but Schmoop seemed to be a little pissed at me for taking it and placing it in our apartment. Huh…go figure.

Perhaps, she doesn’t have the same acute eye for tasteful American art and craftsmanship that I have.

The second item I jumped on? It was her mom’s dog. Well, not a real dog, but a large stuffed dog…

Isn’t she adorable? She is about three feet long and two feet tall from the floor to the top of her precious head. She rests on the floor in front of the TV.

Schmoop’s mom named her Dudley, but since ol’ Dudley has a new owner, this owner felt the need for a new name.

I thought about it long and hard, and when halfway through a fifth of Rose the other day, it came to me.

Since my new canine companion has ears but cannot hear, eyes but cannot see, a mouth yet cannot speak, I have named her…Keller...

In honor of Helen Keller. I know, I thought it was a warm tribute myself.

I hope before you exit this page today that although she won’t be able to hear you, that you say hi to Keller.

That’s it for today folks, I won’t be around much so behave yourselves and I shall see you on Wednesday.

Cheers!!

Hello Keller! Who's a good doggie? Who's a good doggie?

That birdbath thing is freaking awesome! I can't believe Schmoop doesn't want that in the apartment. ;-)

LMAO at Keller, awesome name!! Very nice. Maybe someday you can teach it to sign "water".

Jay: Thanks for the greeting and the birdbath? It is awesome isn't it? Some people have no taste for well made animal sculptures. Cheers Jay!!

D: Ha. Thanks. I have been signing at the dog. Schmoop thought it was funny...for awhile. Cheers D!!

Keller! You kill me.

You could put malted milk balls in the top of your statuary.

Chcik: Hee Hee, thanks. And the malted milk ball idea is perfect. Cheers Chick!!

You definitely have an avant garde style for home décor.

I think Keller may be related to Alf.

Scott: Ha. She does look like Alf...Good observation. Cheers Scott!!

I bet her brother thought you were nuts. That's ok. Often the uninitiated do not recognize the genius.

Charlene: Dave knows exactly why I took them. One, because they're so goofy I find them funny and two? Bringing them home annoys his sister. And that...he truly appreciates. Cheers Charlene!!

...you're not supposed to think "long and hard" about dogs...

I'm telling you I'd proudly display that bird feeder in my home. Hell, I'd probably even fill it with WIR and lap it out of the sunflower!

And Keller?? I think you should let him sit in the passenger seat of your car, window rolled down, head hanging out, and vlog the reactions you get!

Having been somewhat obsessed of late with my anal passage I missed hearing about Schmoops mum. My heartfelt condolences to your special one old bean.

Now the doggie I can go with but the bird bath thingy? Spooky.

I defy any bird to venture near and survive.

That is the Amityville Bird Bath.

ps...why is everyone's mother dying except mine????

This is most unfair. Most unfair.

Dana: Ha...And the dog idea is sweet. You know I'll have to do just that. Cheers Dana!!

Four: Ha. I'm sorry that your mother is still with you. Would like to have one of my visions? Cheers FD!!
