Fifteen Minutes

I was in a funk yesterday. A major funk.

Eh, it happens, but then…

I picked my kid up from school for the fifteen minute trek back to his house, and the funk melted away.

Ryno and I discussed his exams and then I said to him…

“Dude, do something funny. I’m in a grumpy state of mind.”

And he said to me…

“Dad, I can’t be funny all the time. I can’t just BE funny.”

I said…“Oh, c’mon.”

He replied…

“Dad, I know that people think I can, but I can’t just turn it on and off.”

That statement from the, less than little man, made me smile exponentially. I knew exactly what he meant by that. Hell, I’ve lived it…all my life

After we talked about what he said and our commonality, we high fived and then I asked him…

“Ryno? Do people, like say, Mom, Grandma, or whoever, get mad if you’re in a bad mood?”

He quickly retorted…

“Oh Crap Dad, it’s like I’m the only one in the world who is never ALLOWED or EXPECTED to be in a bad mood.”

After I told him that I felt his pain in my best, yet awful Bill Clinton impersonation, we high fived again.

Those fifteen minutes with Ryno, were the highlight of my day yesterday, and those fifteens minutes will always be in my heart.

I know that no matter what, there is at least one person who understands me, and that one person knows that I understand him.

Cheers!!

I love that. I sometimes wonder if my son likes me much. I hope that eventually changes and he high-fives me like that some day. :)

Also, yeah, I know what you mean about people getting upset when you're in a bad mood. I also wasn't allowed to be mad when I was a kid.

Dude. This post wasn't funny.

For me though, being in a funk 23 hours out of each day and only in a good mood for one keeps expectations low. That helps.

What is with people expecting others to be funny all of the time? I didn't realize this existed. It's probably because I'm always surrounded by actors. You take the good moments when you get them. You've got a smart kid there. You're lucky.

Schmoop: Oh Youuuuuuu. Ya gotta love the not so little guy. As you know, he always puts a smile on my face...usually. Cheers and Zoooooves!!

Knight: Oy...I have gotten it for years and Ryno is suffering the same affliction. We're always "happy", so it's expected.
But I do find it hot that I get to comment to both you and Schmoop in the same box..er...thing...er..whatever. Cheers Knight!!

It's so nice to be understood. I hope some day my kids get me. For now I guess I'll just have to settle for being the "meanest Mommy in the whole world" or "the best Mommy in the whole world", depending on whether I answered yes or no to something they want.

Chick: Ha...I understand that. Eh, I know you to be a sweetheart so it'll all work out. Cheers Sexy!!

AWWWW a softer side to Matt-Man- It is much admired that you adore your son so because at that age sometimes that can be really challenging. I hope things turn around for you soon but in the meantime be thankful for that lovely relationship.

Like a bean burro smothered green, this, too, shall pass. [Just pray for a stuffy nose when it does.]

Sometimes 15 minutes is all you need.

Raq: He and I have become so much closer on a different level of lat. I love it. And...I think I need it more than he does. Cheers Roc!!

Rat: I honestlt believe you could say, "Schmooblly poo buh titnix," and I would still get aroused. Cheers Rat!!

Mike: Ha...If you talk to Schmoop, she would tell you that sometimes all I need is two minutes, but I know what ya mean. Cheers Mike!!

Not being a parental unit myself, I've developed that kind of relationship with my niece and nephew - both now in their 20's.

It is a real joy to have others in your life who "get it".

Hope the grand funk goes away soon.

David: It's cool, is it not? And the funk comes and goes. Just feelin crappy about myself at times 'cause I got laid off. Cheers David!!

Oh the trials and tribulations of being a funny man. Makes me grateful to be a train wreck!

Matt-Man said...

Dana: It's the same thing. People expect people to be a constant. Funny or a train wreck, some people like consistency. CHeers Dana!!
