I am many things. I am a fairly good father, but I’m sarcastic, and I can be quite the asshole. One thing I am not, is someone who wants to see anyone die. I have had little remorse however, over the passing of Jerry Falwell. Sure I feel bad for his family but other than that, I just think he was an asshole unlike the type that I am.I am an asshole who makes fun of everything. I make fun of organized religion, political figures, and many times myself. This past Lent I couldn’t have been more blasphemous, but I didn’t mean it. It was a joke. And more importantly it was between me and the Almighty; I didn’t drag anybody else into it unless they chose to read it. This I guess is the First Amendment. Falwell is a good example of the First Amendment, but what he has said over the years, isn’t very “American” or Christian.
How does one feel grief for someone who blames AIDS on God’s punishment.? How can you feel sympathy for a “pastor” who felt that Nelson Mandela should remain in prison and apartheid is a-okay? Does this make me a bad guy or even worse, a hypocrite?
My buddy Schmoop said to me that Falwell didn’t die from a weak heart, he died from acute hypocrisy. From what I hear from those who knew him, he believed what he said. Schmoop however, is still correct. Whether you are a Christian or not, the Bible does not preach the hatred that this man spewed. He was, in a word, an “ass”. Sharpton praised him tonight and so did Ralph Reed, how telling is that?
Yes, I feel badly when somebody passes, but this one is hard for me, and I feel bad about it. I hope that maybe at the eleventh hour he saw the dick-headedness of his ways, and somehow God said to him, “ Jerry, you are soooo fucking lucky that I am a forgiving God.”

Ordinarily I would be slightly disturbed at this level of glee I'm having over someone's passing, but in this I am not. Falwell and his ilk are caricatures of human beings. I think Schmoop made a good point about Falwell. His actions depict a hypocrite of the lowest kind.
As far as him believing what he said... well... that's neither here nor there. When I mentioned "reaction formation" on my blog, I feel that when it came to gays, Falwell was practicing that defense mechanism like the best of them.

Amen...Now we'll hear from all the other hypocrits about how great he was...(I too feel bad for his family and do not take pleasure in someone passing) but I can throw up a lil, can't I?

There are those in this world who pass with no notice, those who pass with grief, and those who pass with glee. Mr Falwell will not be missed.
It is radicals like this who make things clear. For every action there is a reaction. There is a place for everyone, even the bunch who are hard to look at and be around. At least this poor man had an opinion, and wheather or not it was right or just, he provided a platform for there to be a reaction.
Much like Pamela Anderson and Ted Nugent. I'd pay good scratch to see them roll around on each other. You know, wrassle.

I refuse to apologize for being friggin elated that he kicked it. I worked in hospitals in the late 80's early 90's and Falwells brand of Christianity made me sick. The Moral Majority is neither and I am happy to say I had a cold one the night he died and toasted his decent to crispyland.
