Countdown To College: My Son Gets His Freak On

Happy Hump Day, Bitches!!

As I have to spend the day working on my socio-political project and tweaking my site, I must be brief today.

Last night my son Ryan, and his mom went to a College Night that was held at the local fairgrounds.

Representatives from about three dozen Colleges and Universities were on hand to talk with area High School students.

Ryan, spoke with representatives from three universities…Wright State, which Ryan told me seemed, “okay”.

Notre Dame, to which Ryno imparted to me, “I didn’t like the way the guy was looking into my soul, Dad.”

And the third University?

Central State University, Home of the Maurauders...A smaller school located some 25 minutes south of Bagwine. Ryan really liked the lady from CSU with whom he spoke.

She really engaged Ryan about the academics and still managed to stroke his basketball ego, by saying that perhaps he could play hoops for the Maurauders as well in a few short years.

Let's take a a brief tour of Central State University, shall we? We shall.

Here's a picture of part of the campus featuring an Ohio Historical Marker. CSU is a very old institution in the Buckeye State.

Here's a picture of the entrance to the school which is steeped in history and tradition...

While he would be there to study, and hopefully play basketball, there still has to be time for fun, just like the student body of CSU is having while taking in a Maurauder home football game!!

Do you see a trend here, folks? Maybe this will offer further illumination...

If Ryno did manage to make the Maurauder Men's Basketball team while studying there, that would be great. Especially if he hooked up with one of the cheerleaders.

What does the current CSU Cheerleading Squad look like? Well, like this...

Yes, folks...Ol' pasty white Ryno is really taken with Central State University, and I dig it.

Ryno and I have already discussed the big positive of him attending Central State University...

If he went there, got only C's in his classes, and never made the basketball team; he would still stand out more and shine brighter than 99% of the students attending this historic and prestigious institution of higher learning.

Knowing Ryno as I do, and how much like me he is, I can see him going there not only for the comedic value, but like his dad, he's got a thing for Tyra Banks, and the next generation Tyra Banks could very well be a member of the CSU Class of 2016.

You go boy...you go. Get your education, on!!

Cheers!!

Unless Ryno suddenly becomes 7.5 feet tall, I'm not seeing him making the CSU b-ball team - no matter how much he wants to impress Tyra Banks.

But basing his decision on a perceived rapport with a recruiting agent...I'm not so sure about the wisdom of that.

And Notre Dame is run by catholics....must still be on guard for those pedophiles.

Cheers and may the best come to Ryno on this education thingy.

One of these things is not like the other.....

LOL, he could be their token white friend.

David: Any college team would kill for a kid who will end up being a 6'0 to 6'1" guard and who can shoot 50% from three point range.

The bashing you mention? I don't know where that came from. I didn't bash anything. I was glad to find out that he spoke upp and asked the lady plenty of questions about their Business Marketing program.

If he ends up going to CSU, I would be happy if that is what he wants.

I am merely finding humor in the fact, as did he, that by going there, he would be like a white Sidney Poitier starring in, "Guess Who's Coming to Econ 101?"

Cheers David!!

Candice: Screw being a nurse. You should be a Doctor. You are one helluva diagnostician, dammit!! Cheers Candice!!

Mrs D: Or better yet, he could just be their friend. Although if he joins a frat, I see him doing alot of dishes. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment. Cheers to ya!!

To hell with Tier One and Ivy league universities; send that boy to a school that will appreciate his unique abilities and where he'll more than succeed.

LOL! I would call this thinking outside of the box but I guess in this case I should say bag :P

Oh my God, I finally found Waldo! If he decided on CSU it would give him invaluable cultural knowledge, diplomatic, and communication skills. He could even get a job in Atlanta.

The neighborhood I grew up in was mixed, so I never saw race as an issue. Then living in Europe, especially the UK makes America seem strange. There are no purely black schools over there. They do have racism, but it’s mostly against Eastern European immigrants. I still wonder why the black population in the UK was able to completely integrate and even up with the white, and why they’ve struggled so much in the US? It really is an amazingly stark contrast. Sorry to weigh down your light-hearted post.

Uh, don’t forget the next generation of…….
Halle Berry
Vanessa Williams
Beyonce
Alicia Keys

He may learn more of value there than at a larger and more "white" college.

Why is there not one non-black person, that I can see, in the picture? Notice how that is "ok" but not if it were the otherway around... I don't have a problem with it but it is that double standard rearing it's ugly head.

Oh and what does the marker say?

Michele: Ryno can can go anywhere he wants as long as it fits his academic and social needs as well as the financial picture at the time. I'm not into institution name dropping and neither is he. Cheers Michele!

Starr: Ha. He thinks outside the bag often...sometimes too often for me. Cheers Starr!!

Scott: He's already a pretty good diplomat and communicator, but it would enhance those skillz. As for the racial thing? That made my head hurt this early.

Now, I would love it if Beyonce and Vanessa were the slices of bread in a Matt Sandwich. Cheers Scott!!

Nick: I don't know about that. He may learn different things by attending by CSU rather than a more "white" college, but wherever he goes the learning is up to him. Cheers Nick!!

Lu: There are a few non-black students that attend there, but it has always been since 1870 or so, a traditonally black college. A black college set up by white legislators. ne could walk on to other campuses in the US and see virtually few blacks. No Biggie. Cheers Lu!!

Dude - I said "basing" not "bashing".

I've detected that Ryno is quite good with the b-ball so my 7.5 foot tall smart-ass attempt at humor fell flat.

Still, a funny post. I enjoyed the comment about being the token white friend.

Cheers

David: Ha. Now that's funny. I love being the punchline, and I'm used to it.

He's not basing his decision on anything yet, although unlike the others, the lady in question took the time to talk to him like he mattered.

He's barely a Freshman, I'm sure that he will want to go to at least 20 different schools and change what he wants to study a couple dozen times prior to final decision time.

Cheers David!!

Hey the camera guy is white and I bet he gets paid the most.

Micky: As he probably works for WHIO-TV Channel 7 out of Dayton, I wouldn't count on it. Other than the money spent on a couple of their "star" anchors, they are notoriously cheap. Cheers Mick!!

So you're saying that the college recruiter that he talked to is hot, right?

“I didn’t like the way the guy was looking into my soul, Dad.” - That made me literally LOL.

And I would like to add Meagan Good, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Keri Hilson and Adina Porter to the list. ;-)

When I was in high school I was offered a "minority" scholarship to University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. I was a little confused. Even though I already knew that UAPB stood for U Are Probably Black. LOL

Schmoop said...

Jay: Ha All very funny Jay. Yeah, when he told me the line about the Notre Dame guy I laughed out loud as well.

I find the entire "reverse minority" thing quite amusing. And...

I appreciate your additions to the hot nubian chicks, but let us not forget Toni Braxton.

Mmmmmmmmm Toni. Cheers Jay!!

Ryno should go to whatever school he wants that he can get into...and you are right....it could very well change a dozen times in the next two years.

while school-name-dropping might not be important....there are times that it definitely opens doors.

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

Can he can an education? That is the only reason to select a school...

Schmoop said...

Kat: I know it will...Hell, it may change by the end of the week. Cheers Kat!!

Bond: That remains to be seen with him. Cheers!!

It's great he has so many choices and opportunities available to him.

That last photo has convinced me to become a Maurauder.

Marsha: I just hope he realizes that and acts upon it. Cheers Marsha!!

Knight: Well bless my soul. How the hell are ya Knight? I'm guessing, still sexy. You and Tyra? Holy Cow, my dreams come true. Cheers Knight!!
