Stupidity and Enlightenment

Oh my friends, what an exhausting day I had at the Beer Mine on Tuesday…Wow.

It wasn’t so much physically exhausting as it was mentally exhausting. I was really busy, but that doesn’t bother me at all.

It was the level of stupid and annoying I was encountering from the patrons. Holy Shit!!

Do you have charcoal? What kind of hot dogs do you have? How much is your ice cream?

Folks…we sell beer, pop, and smokes. The name of the place pretty well spells that out, and here’s the topper from yesterday.

Smelly Lady w/a Cold Sore on Her Lip and a Screaming Kid: Do you have chocolate milk?

Me: No, ma’am. We do not sell milk at all.

Smelly Lady w/a Cold Sore on Her Lip and a Screaming Kid: Do you have white milk?

Of course there was also an older man who wanted a bottle of pop. When I told him the price of said bottle of pop, he went ballistic.

This was later in the evening, so at this point I just laughed maniacally, for I knew being pissed off, offered me little emotional relief.

On top of that, It was evident to me that this man had not been out of his house since the Nixon Administration and was unaware of the fact that prices on things have increased somewhat since 1973.

Oy. Anyhoo…

All of this stupidity reminded of something. In a little under two weeks, May 4th to be exact, Ohioans will be going to the polls and voting in our 2010 Primary elections.

And I, after 27 years of being a registered Democrat will be registering as an Independent. And why is that? Because of what I just mentioned, stupidity.

Not on my part of course, but on the part of not only the Democratic party but the Republican party as well.

It has to me become quite evident that the Democratic party has been hijacked by far left loons like Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow and the GOP has been hijacked by right wing nuts like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

It does not make me happy to leave the party.

I have for years successfully run campaigns in Ohio and West By God Virginia for many a Democrat, but while I am and always will be a Liberal, I am not a far left ideologue.

So, on May 4th I will, as an Independent, not be allowed to vote in the Democratic Primary, but will only be able to vote on a local Library tax levy issue and a tax renewal issue involving our local Elderly United organization.

Not very sexy, but it has come to this and it makes sense considering who I am and how I think.

After all, while I dig me the Holy Baby Jeebus, I loathe organized religion regardless of the denomination, so it makes sense that while I love politics, I have come to loathe any and all party affiliations.

I feel the need to make a joke now; a big hilarious finish...but while I do feel somewhat liberated, I feel sour now as well.

I do take my politics seriously.

Cheers!!

Hey, it's your decision, and I understand the liberating feeling of leaving the party (and blogging doesn't really work as a platform for real discussion about politics anyway), but as much as I understand the way people who don't like Keith Olbermann don't like his show, I can't find anything wrong in anything Rachel Maddow has ever said. And I believe Olbemann's views are more reactionary than extreme for the sake of extremism, as they come against what he sees as a Right-wing ignorant extremism. The people he fights acted like little Fascists when Bush was President, and now they act like revolutionaries and secessionists when Obama is President. And as a Liberal, I'm also frustrated with the Democratic party, but only because it's too timid in its fight against the Republicans.

Just my opinion, hey. I can't help it if I'm always right, though.

Clay: And I agree with that. Many times I have not a cast a vote on a race that was on my ballot because I didn't like any of the candidates, but I have always voted for whom or what I believe in. As for the milk? Go fondle a cow. Cheers Clay!!

I don't like to call myself either, but I'll take Dem before I'll take Rep. Labels are too constricting.

You will be voting yes to give the library more money, right?

PITS: I find Olbermann to be a carnival barker and Rachel maddow to be intellectually dishonest. She does a promo where she says, "I'm not doing this show to push an agenda." Ha. Bullshit.

And...on top of that I think her show sucks, especially when she has that unfunny Kent Jones on. Oy!! But, I waych it almost every night just like I watch Beck and O'Reilly, and Olbermann.

The Democratic party's problem is not standing up to the Republicans, the party's problem is that they are trying to push crap down the throats of America that many people do not want.

I mean, fuck the GOP, they want nothing, but the Dems want everything now and they don't understand that change needs baby steps where the vast majority of Americans are concerned.

I like Obama, and most people don't understand that he is not a Socialist, but rather a pragmatist, but he screwed up when he turned many of the legislative reigns of what he wanted over to Pelosi and Reid.

Cheers PITS!!

D: I seriously doubt that especially around here and our area's type of Republican I will vote for one, but I am done with the Dem party. Cheers D!!

Michele: Hey Now. That hurt that you even had to ask. Apologize!! ; )Cheers Michele!!

I'm a registered independent, but I could still vote in the primary if I wanted to. You just ask for whichever ballot you want. Right now I'm planning on not voting in the primary as there are no local issues on the ballot and nobody I just have to go and vote for.

I don't understand why people don't get bottled pop out of the vending machines. It's cheaper and you don't pay the taxes on it. Come on people, think! haha

Schmoop said...

Jay: In Ohio one has to declare one's affliation prior to voting in the primary so Ind. don't get to vote on party primaries, only issues; which I do agree with.

As for the Vending Machine Pop? Hell, it's at least 1.25 to 1.50 out of a machine around here. We're ten cents higher and folks don't have to get out of their damn car. Fuck Em'!! Cheers Jay!!

I am an Independent. There are worse things.

Damn, you’re lucky that dude didn’t go all ‘Falling Down’ on your ass with a sawed off and a baseball bat. Do Not fuck with an angry, middle class white man!

I’ve always been registered as an independent but have always voted dem in national and state. Although I have voted R in some locals in the past.

Now I don’t have to worry about it. It’s nice.

And I, after 27 years of being a registered Democrat will be registering as an Independent.

Now I know that I *heart* you!

Us Democrats are sad to see you go Matty.

Schmoop said...

JWOP: Oh Hell, I know, it's just different that's all. Thanks for stopping by agian. Cheers JWOP!!

Scott: Pffft. When I'm there I rule the place with a kind but iron fist. Just ask Mikey. Matty-Boy don't take no shit.

I've only voted for one Republican and that was many moons ago. Typically, if I didn't like the Dem candidate in a race I just left that vote go unmarked. Cheers Scott!!

Dana: Ha. I think I have always been an independent kinda guy, now I am just finally getting rid of the label. Cheers Dana!!

Doc: I'm not going anywhere. I'm still the same ol' Matty, there will simply not be a "D" beside my name. Cheers Doc!!

I hate how polarized we've become. I still haven't had any takers for my interparty sweating to the oldies idea though.

Schmoop said...

Marilyn: Ha. That was a great idea. And yeah, labels, not thinking for one's self, and hate are becoming the rule rather than the exception. I don't like it. Cheers Marilyn!!

True liberation always involves having to endure degrees of bitterness ... and isolation.

Or it could be the whiskey talking ...

Schmoop said...

Keith: While I'm with ya on the whiskey thing, I have never been one to be desperate or bitter.

In fact if one is bitter or desperate they are not truly liberated as they are evidently tied to a sense of remorse, failure, or sense of control by others. I have none of that.

Thanks for stopping by, and Cheers!!

I like Rachel's show. I did not watch the interview with McVeigh. I mean a book has got to be better than giving him a listen. She's smart and takes says things most of us are afraid to say. I do think she occasionally rags on something that is long past done.

Also, I'm a yellow dog Democrat just like Granny is in West by Goddess Texas, though I don't use the word fuck as much as she used to.

Schmoop said...

Charlene: Maddow may be a perfectly fine human being in her every day life but as a talking head, she is as far left as Hannity is far right. And she lies in her MSNBC promo...She does have an agenda, which is fine...just don't claim that you don't. Cheers Charlene!!

You have to register? In MO we just declare when we go to vote. Don't have to prove anything.

Schmoop said...

Mike: It's the same thing. They ask you which ballot you want and you say Dem, Rep, or Ind. I guess we use more cutting and articulate words in Ohi-uh. Cheers Mike!!

You wanna try being a driving instructor.

"What's this?"

"The steering wheel"

"What do I do with it?"

That was my first ever pupil.

I went home again and drank vodka. It was safer that way.
