Sunday Morning Church Disservice: Grandpa, A Referee, and a Rabbi Walk Into a Basketball Game...

Another chilly but partly sunny Sabbath in Bagwine on tap for today.

I shall of course being working 11-7 doling out libation and nicotine to thirsty and Marlboro addicted football viewers.

As it should be.

I am headed over to Ryno’s tonight after work to go over his homework for a bit. I get the pleasure of also taking him to the orthodontist at eight tomorrow morning as well.

He is getting his second and final round of braces installed. I wish I could spend Christmas with the orthodontist. I bet there will be presents aplenty under his family’s tree.

Speaking of Ryno…His team lost 51-41 Friday night. On top of that, there are closed door discussions going on as to whether Grandpa should attend any more of Ryno’s games.

It seems that his 73 year old grandpa has spontaneously become an expert in the area of basketball officiating and loudly and forcefully will let his opinion be heard from the stands. I’m sorry I missed it.

The R-Man did play the entire game and finished with:

8 Pts. (including 2 shots made from 3 pt. range)
3 Rebounds
2 Assists
2 Blocks
4 Steals

We also found out that he has grown another inch and now stands 5’11”. A mere inch shorter than the Matt-Dad. Oy Vay!!

His next game is Friday 12/11. There should be magic in the air as tip off coincides with the beginning of Hanukkah.

Will the power of the magic Jewish candle help his private Christian school basketball team play better? Will the ref call players for double dreideling? Will Grandpa once again start kvetching and obnoxiously kibitz the refs from his seat..?

Only Yahweh knows.

There will be holiday fun o’plenty this week on Bagwine Ruminations. Unfortunately, as I will be tied up with work and other things Monday and Tuesday, it really won’t begin until Wednesday. But…

Much like anticipating the return of our Lord and Savior, Jeebus Christ, it should be well worth the wait.

Amen, and Amen…

Have a wonderful Sunday all, and I will see you when I can.

Cheers!!

Oh I love ‘When Basketball Grandfather’s Attack,’ I sure hope somebody has the good sense to record all of this. If it was my dear deceased father, I’d load em up with shot’s of tequila, and maybe an odd steroid injection just to get the party started right. But then again, I never did much care for my old man.

Congrats to Ryno for a game well played! And I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the coming week.

Scott: Ha. The funny thing is I don't think his grandpa had ever watched a basketball game until the last year when it appeared that Ryno was pretty good. Hee Hee. And now? Gramps knows it all. It's cute.

Sorry about Pitt...sorta. Cheers Scott!!

Go Ryno!!

I've always thought that the Hanukkah menorah candle is not magic but is symbolic of the magic lamp oil much like a styrofoam disk is symbolic of the magic body of Christ. Now, that red wine that is symbolic of the blood of Christ is magical...but I think that is because Christ was known as a wine maker from his water-to-wine days. That would make him very popular at my parties for sure – assuming his wine was any good – certainly not if it is anything like that Manishevitz kosher swill, that would be a deal-breaker.

Cheers Matt-Man. Sounds like you continue along the path of health improvement.

I shall speak with my dear and departed Jewish Nana and ask her to intervene on Ryno's team's behalf

she always loved a good Hanukah stunt

I don't know anything about braces really. How much longer will he wear them? Just a thought doesn't that suck wearing a mouth guard with braces? They do wear one in b-ball don't they?

Having a pretty good Sunday thanks:)

half my family are Hoosiers.

My Grampa never understood why none of my kids wanted to play basketball. He would have been just like Ryno's Grampa.
