Sunday Morning Church Disservice: Shake Down The Thunder

It’s going to be a cool yet sunny Sabbath here in Bagwine, Ohio today.

Although, I doubt if it will be as cool as the reception that President Obama gets from the alumni at Notre Dame University.

So, President Obama is going to speak at Notre Dame today. Oh my God!!

Get It?

I’m sorry Bill Donahue. I’m sorry Pope Benny. I’m sorry to all of you priests who ruined the lives of little boys.

(Albeit it was a tiny percent who besmirched your calling because of a few assholes…so to speak.)

More than the Priests involved, I’m sorry that the Vatican bureaucracy and dioceses tried to cover up that fact of the abuses.

Yeah, so, Obama is pro-choice. Many American Catholics are as well. I understand your, private University status and all of that, but…

Could you, the Catholic Church, not try to make up for your own hypocrisy by making a “stand” against a thoughtful guy like President Obama?

You may ask, why I use the word “thoughtful.” I am not talking about respectful and well-mannered.

I am talking about “thoughtful” in the sense, that he thinks. Obama thinks. By God!! We have a President who thinks!!

And not one who thinks what he thinks, but rather, one who is open to new and different ideas and thoughts.

I find that refreshing. As refreshing as the beauty of the Eucharist and the Holy Water. Bathe in its glory, Donahue; you religious bigot, dirt bag. And by the way, try Confession, you need it.

I won’t get to see it live, but I have no doubt that President Obama will make the best of a “bad” situation.

He will, in his usual way, wax poetic about personal growth and being all that one can be, as it should be during the course of a commencement.

This entire thing is a joke. It’s the President of the United States for God’s sake. Get over yourselves.

Bush 43 spoke at ND, and he was a HUGE Death Penalty advocate. I know, you Catholics are big on thumb screws, but c’mon…

Let me give you protesters and gnashers of teeth a little Sunday morning St. Augustine...

"If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself."

Amen, and Amen.

I am not typing this to argue the virtues or lack thereof of abortion, that will never change anyone‘s mind either way. I am saying this…

Notre Dame prides itself on being one of the finest Universities in the world. It is a bastion of learning, thought, exploration, and Catholicism.

In spite of its religious roots, can it not live up to those traditions and allow for Obama, or anyone for that matter, with differing opinions, to speak?

Are some of the University’s staff, alumni, and more importantly, donors, afraid to have their faith challenged?

Evidently so. And the funny things is, President Obama will not make a case for the legality of abortion.

He probably will not even mention it, other than in passing to recognize differences of thought and the great American right to protest.

He will simply tell the grads, in a very eloquent way, to do their best. As it should be.

Cheers!!

From what I've seen, it looks like a tiny loud minority of students that got recruited by political groups. They're that stupid.

To be fair, even if you're the majority of students, proud of the fact that your school got the President to speak, you can't be louder in your support than the few douchebags holding giant posters of fetuses.

And as for Bill Donahue, well, I think you've said it all.

PITS: Same thing here. From what I've seen it's mostly outside activists.

As for Donahue?...Wow...There is one pissed off, ugly, excuse for a human being. Cheers PITS!!

And not one who thinks what he thinks, but rather, one who is open to new and different ideas and thoughts.

Some people call saying one thing, then changing your mind wishy-washy, but I digress ...

Although I've heard all the hubub about this, and believe it is utterly ridiculous. Do we even know if any of the protesters are actually Catholic, or are they just anti- abortion? Something tells me they may be nothing more than right-wing attention whores attempting to give the Catholic Church and Obama some bad press.

Dana: I find that far too often many people label all people who change one's mind over time to be wishy washy or simply politically expedient. I don't think that that ia always the case.

But I digress...

You are correct. From the reports I have seen many of the protesters are outside groups. For instance, I don't think Alan Keyes can spell Notre Dame let alone ever have the where with all to have ever been accepted as a student. Cheers!!

Nicely said Matt-man. The relious extremists never can be reasonable or compromising since they have God on their side.

Also, I kind of wonder if a lot of this hype is caused by a slow news day.

David: Why thank you. And, at least in my opinion, you are correct...

This is being made into more of a story than it is. And evidently, I fell into that!!

I was watching FOX and Friends this morning (Alisyn Camerota, purrr) and the ticker undneath the report from ND, said:

"Tensions on Campus Running High"

Ha. Half the graduating class is probably already drunk because they are finally graduating!!

Thanks again, David. Cheers!!

I feel sorry for the graduates who have had this special day tainted or even ruined in some way by loudmouths who saw political opportunity in Obama's invitation. Of course, we're only talking about political opportunity in the sense of stirring up the people who already hate Obama. A majority of Catholics voted for Obama. And he won a HUGE majority of the vote in St. Joseph County, Indiana where ND is located.

It's just another fake "scandal" being orchestrated by the Tea Party morons and other right wing wackos.

Oh and Bill Donahue is a pathetic,self-loathing, bigoted, hate-filled, attention whore douchebag of the highest order.

Sure let the guy talk..but giving him an honorary degree?

Still, this is almost like inviting David Duke to give the commencement at Morehouse.

Jay: I am right there with ya. And as for Donahue? Oh Dear God, he is everything you just said. Cheers!!

Hammer: You are kidding, right? Cheers!!

Phfrankie: Why thank ya P-Man. It may have come out even better had I not typed on a Saturday night!! Cheers!!

Cheesy: I know...I know. But hey, the event gives Alan Keyes something to do. Cheers!!

The Catholic church needs no help at all from right, left or middle wing extremist to make themselves look bad. All you need is Blitzkrieg running the company after their rather questionable response to the what was happening in Europe circa 1939.

And I am sorry. Changing your mind on something if you hear more information or rethink your position does not make you wishy washy.
Ya can't have it both ways and slam Bush for following a hardline policy and being dogmatic and then get bent if Obama changes his mind on a pet Left issue.

And I *highly* doubt you would find many at Morehouse who would vote for David Duke so that one just ain't flyin. Cause let me tell you there are plenty of uteri at ND that have been scraped.

Starr: I am so glad that you woke up Monday morning in a great mood. ; ) But I agree with ya. Cheers Sexy!!
