Return From Elba: Don Imus Premiers on FOX Business Network

Today, Monday October 5th, 2009 is a big day in the world of morning talk shows.

The antediluvian, ophidian looking, sarcastic son of a bitch, Don Imus returns to TV today as he will now be simulcasting his radio show on FOX Business Network.

Yes friends, a little over two years after being unceremoniously canned by MSNBC, The I-Man has returned to television.

The President of FOX News and my fellow Ohioan, Roger Ailes, has decided that any wounds resulting from I-Man’s April 2007 “nappy headed ho’s” quote in reference to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, have healed, and...

The I-Man is ready for “Primetime TV” once more…well, that the I-Man is once again ready for “Holy Crap It’s Early!! TV.”

I was behind Imus when the hubbub over his “ho” remark occurred. I wasn’t behind him because of his remark, although I found it to be pretty damn tame.

I was behind him because of the hypocrisy of those who wanted him fired.

Al Roker who appeared on the Imus in the Morning show numerous times in order to hump his latest book, was “outraged” by what Imus had said.

Baby Daddy, Jesse Jackson used the “scandal” in order to attempt to resurrect his long lost relevance.

Al Sharpton, who once said, “White folks was in caves while we was building empires…We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.” was driving the Fire Imus Bandwagon.

MSNBC and CBS Radio were outraged as well…not by his comment, but by the fact that they were losing advertising revenue over the incident.

Jackson, Sharpton, MSNBC, CBS, and many other people and groups wore their hypocrisy and phoniness on their sleeves over this “scandal.”

It was completely and intentionally blown out of proportion by civil rights ambulance chasers and multimedia bean counters.

But…that is in the past. Today, Imus, while he has continued to air his show on radio, begins anew on TV.

I’m going to watch it today, but eh…

While I have always found Imus to be funny in a rude, asshole type of way, I’m hooked on Morning Joe (Brewed By Starbucks) on MSNBC.

I know, Joe Scarborough is as Conservative as they come, but he has the best guests on…and they come from all political spectrums.

On top of that, if I want to be amused by a rude asshole, I’ll just read my old posts (like this one) or write a new one. So…

I’m glad that Imus is back. I think he got a raw deal by being fired, although he did get a 40 Million Dollar settlement from CBS.

But hey, if you’re one of those who thinks he didn’t get punished enough, consider this…

Even though Imus is back on TV, he’s on FOX Business Network. FOX Business Network, People!! Holy Cow!!

It’s channel 353 on the Bagwine cable box. Who has the strength and where-with-all to punch THREE numbers into their remote!?

I bet Ailes would have rather put Imus on FOX News Channel in the morning in place of the Fox and Friends Stooges: Doocy, Kilmeade, and Carlson, but being the smart guy that Ailes is, he recognizes something important.

People who watch Fox and Friends during the week, don’t like to think for themselves. They want the right wing honey served to them on top of their morning oatmeal.

The I-Man? He sometimes has opinions that go against the grain of those types of people. Ailes doesn’t want to upset those folks, especially during breakfast. It could very well confuse them for the rest of the day.

Cheers!!

That was very well written and erudite, great job. I admit that I’m prejudiced against Imus, so I tend to look at the situation with shit tinted glasses. I’ve always been a fan of Stern, since the way back when. He always made Imus out to be the biggest douchebag, asshat on the planet and I tend to agree. I just don’t like or get the whole country boy/rancher/roughneck shtick. So as a juror, I’m excusing myself, if that suits you, your Honor?

I personally think that most of the right wing radio hosts are far more blatantly racist than Imus though. Half of them inspire violence against Mexican’s, and Limbaugh did a song during the campaign ‘Barack the magic negro.’ I mean that pretty bad. If I was running for office and somebody called me a WOP I’d be throwing punches. I guess that’s why I’m not a politician though, huh?

Great job!

The Imus show has never appealed to me in any way. Some employer could fire me any day of the week with a $40M severance package but going back to TV on Fox Business?? I don't think so.

Anyhoo - antediluvian is the perfect word to describe him. Kudos to you for that bit of semantic beauty.

Cheers for Monday Matt-Man.

Scott: First of all, thank you for the kudos. Secondly, While his schtick and/or act can get old, I find his asshatness part of his appeal as I far as I go. And you're right, others had and do say far worse things. Have a lovely day you Psanish dwelling, WOP, you. Cheers Scott!!

David: Ha. Yeah, I don't think going to the FBN is a great step up, but I'm sure he'll pick up a few viewers/listeners because of it.

And thanks, I enjoy employing little used words whenever I can, if they're applicable. Cheers David!!

Eh... Don Imus...kinda of a strange character. I never really got his appeal. I didn't feel sorry about his dismissal. I mean with that HUGE severance he got he'll be calling out all the nappy headed ho's again soon I'm sure. I think asshat is an appropriate term to describe him. That hat is certainly big enough to hold his ass and a few otthers...but to put him on FOX Buisness... that is a laugh...LOL

Fox Business, that alone is enough for a good chuckle

what do they discuss - flag weaving and bible binding
oh and of course gun manufacturing

Imus makes me want to rip his throat out

That is one weird looking guy.
I remember hearing him on radio way before I ever saw him on TV. When I finally saw him, I laughed my ass off. I really had been picturing an old, old cowboy type bald headed used up fat guy, not someone from the Boomtown kid show I grew up watching.

Schmoop said...

Robin: He is all that but he can be funny, and FBN is looking to put some juice in their ratings. I understand the move on their part, but for Imus? Eh, not so much. Cheers Robin!!

Dianne: I am certain that your feelings of wanting to rip his throat out are not unique to yourself. Cheers Sexy!!

Micky: Ha. He looks like a doddering old fool, and sometimes he sounds like one, but I find him and those around him pretty damn funny at times. Cheers Mick!!

...if there's a more wacked-out looking person on the Tee-Vee I haven't seen 'em...but I can listen to him...

Schmoop said...

Phfrankie: we can't listen to him in our area on the radio, so we are forced to look at him when we want to hear him. Cheers P-Man!!

He was insignificant in the 90's...he is better suited for the OTDSTS Channel

(Older Than Dirt Stupider Than S**T)

Antediluvian? Somebody bought a word of the day calender! ;-)

Back in the day when I worked the overnight shift, I used to listen to Imus. We'd turn him on at work and then I would listen on the drive home. His show was ridiculously juvenile, which is why I enjoyed it so much. LOL

But, his shtick got old after a while. He was pretty much just going through the motions and recycling the same bits over and over. And, "nappy headed hos," while maybe not rising to the level of firing, is a pretty ugly way to describe a group of black chicks. Even if they are all covered with tats and are more muscular than most NFL linebackers. haha

Schmoop said...

Bond: Insignificant? I tend to disagree with that. Three Marconi Awards, and being named as one of the 25 Most Influnetial People in America by Time is not insignificant. I mean he's not a genius or anything, but I wouldn't call him insignificant. Chers Vinny!!

Jay: Ha. He is juvenile. And I agree, being juvenile is fun.

But you're right, while listening to him this morning other than a rant against him by Charles McCord which was tear inducing funny, it was the same old stuff.

Here's to the linebacker women of the Scarlet Knights. Cheers Jay!!

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

As I said insignificant...he won some award because people hated giving it to Stern...NO other reason...
Time Magazine would not know Influential if it hit them in the head...

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

His whole show is scripted to the minute...if he plays a bit on Monday during the 6am hour, it is replayed Tuesday during the 7am and Wednesday during the 8am etc etc...

They used to say that people who loved Howard Stern would listen for 2+ hours to see what he would say next...those that hated Howard Stern would listen for 3+ hours to see what he said next...with Diaper Don you could listen for 5 minutes and then turn him off because he would just mumble on about nothing.

He became Bob Grant (the original Rush Limbaugh) in the early 90's because he saw some doddering old fool making some money and realized he was also a doddering old fool..

His 'ranch for kids' is only a PR attempt at getting good publicity, which Time Magazine bought into when they included him on that list.

Bond: Well, there is that Parallel Universe Logic. But it doesn't hold alot of Parallel Universe Water. Cheers Vin!!

Schmoop said...

Bond: Wow...Sure folks like Imus and others who work in his industry change and adapt in order to garner ratings, but to hold up The Imus Ranch as simply a PR thing?

I don't get that or you, when you say that. Cheers Vinny!!

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

Guess I am not 'on board' here any longer Matt...

And as you seem to have stopped visiting The Couch...I presume our love affair is over.

Schmoop said...

Bond: Well Vin, I don't know what you are talking about.

I was just at your site this morning and it was the Friday Peace Globe post. I refrained from putting up a comment out of deference to you and Mimi.

I find the Peace Globe thing to be "nice", and I used to participate in it, but I don't see any "peace effect" coming from it. I asked you once to explain how it would, but you did not.

As far as people "being on board" on my site? Gimme a break.

I dig differing viewpoints as long as what one is repesenting is cogent, well-thought out, and lacks a foundation in ideological monocularism.

Unlike many sites big and small, personally held or corporately owned, I'm not into sheeple blindly agreeing with others. I like open, smart, candid debate. Regardless if I agree with the commenter or vice versa.

Cheers Vinny!!

i've never listened to or watched imus, so fuck him... did listen to stern twice, i thought he was a twelve year old until i saw him, now i just classify him as a general loser. i do agree with you about the hypocrisy... jesse jackson & al sharpton going after someone for being racist? LOLOLOLOL that would be like farrakhan being labeled as a peace loving non racist... zealotry makes people money if not, they all would be unheard of.

You missed today's post is all Sir...

I believe that one small pebble can creat a huge avalanche and as is evident by over 40 countries being included in last year's BlogFest For peace, I think the word is spreading.

If one dies not participate then how can change occur.

You want to make changes in your world and you do so with your words...we are doing the same.

I do not condemn you for not participating and I am grateful that you did not go snarky on my post (and BTW all my posts will include Peace Globe commentary until Nov. 5th, so be prepared)

I guess I just felt your response to my comment about the ranch was a blow-off...

Maybe I took it too literally...but as someone who lived in NY and watched the drama of the old doddering fool unfold, you have to know that the ranch began when he was in the bowels of nothingness and needed to find a way to be noticed again...

The Teamster said...

I miss "Don Geronimo" and Mike O'Meara"..out of DC...went to one of their "Las Vegas style" shows live.....now that's juvenile...

was never a big imus fan...And I've always thought that if you don't like to listen or watch someone, then change the station..

the ratings will determine their success or failure

this Imus gettin' a new gig is a subject on which I just can not scrounge up an opinion on.

Bond: I think it's wonderful that the Peace Globe thing is still going on, I just don't understand the end game or the action that will result. As for the Imus Ranch, I wasn't blowing you off at all, I just think you and I disagree on his intentions, as do many who run funds for SIDS, Autism, and other charities. Cheers!!

Starr: You are so fucking eclectic. Cheers Starr!!

Teamster: Simply change the channel? What a novel concept. I wish more whiners would listen to your words of wisdom. Cheers Teamster!!
