Let's Boycott The Muslims...Or Not

Sometimes…

I think of myself, and all of humanity, in the way God, if He or She exists, thinks of us.

And lately, how could I not think of Him in terms of the proposed Islamic Cultural Center/Mosque near ground zero?

Some folks believe that the proposed Cultural Center should not be built. Some say it should be further away.

I have heard the argument, that unless Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations permit churches and synagogues in their country, why should we allow the building of this proposed mosque, cultural center, Muslim YMCA, whatever?

If that's a problem, I say let's not buy oil from Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries....Ha Ha Ha Ha..kidding, of course...that's crazy talk!!

I have also heard that the dirty Muslims and the Imam in question, should compromise and move their and specifically, his, proposed building further away from “Ground Zero”.

When I think about this conundrum and possible compromises, I think…What Would Jesus Do?

Jesus would never back down, no matter how much shit he got.

He would continue to cure the blind. He would resurrect Lazarus. He would say…

“Persecute me all you want, and kill me while you're at it; I shall not perish.”

The building of this Islamic Center “at ground zero” has taken on more ugliness that it ever should have, but the ugliness is there.

And, while it is here, let me say something…

If Jesus Christ came to New York City or Anywhere, USA today, and wanted to build a Church?

He would say…

“If sinners are congregations, I am going to have the largest following ever…Unless, they want to listen to my message.”

A Mosque Around Ground Zero? Fuck That!!

So…

Some towel heads want to build a mosque near the sacred ground where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center towers once stood.

Sean “I Don’t Wear a Wedding Ring” Hannity and Michelle “If You Want To Chill Your Beer, Put It Between My Legs” Malkin, and other right wing knuckleheads are up in arms about this.

Me?

I really don’t give a shit.

Hell, put up a Baskin-Robbins for all I care. It’s just a piece of ground that some time ago got vaporized by some hateful nut jobs.

But…let me ask you this…If a Christian Church wanted to build a facility in the area would that be okay? Of course it would, because…

Christianity is where it’s at…or so Christians think, especially those of the Fundamentalist favor…and fervor.

I am a Christian, but you know what? I dislike many Christians because, well…many have some warped sense of Christianity.

In fact, many Christians have an incredibly fucked up take on Christianity, just as many Muslims have a fucked up view of Islam.

I know, Mohammed was a crazy man who allegedly was talked to by God (he was probably drunk on camel piss), and we Christians know his story not to be true.

And Mohammed, set forth this entire Muslim thing that just fucks up the world of Christianity, and the lives of every living, breathing, freedom loving American.

Anyhoo…

A mosque near the site of the 9-11 attack would be a thorn in the eye of our God. After all, God likes America best…at least that’s what I hear.

What a joke…God likes people based on their own merits, not their religious or political affiliation. And if I am wrong, and He doesn‘t, that’s not a God I give a damn about.

But, back to my original point…

Why do Americans, and people throughout the world feel the need to build memorials?

My mom and dad didn’t die in a horrific act of terrorism, but they are no less dead, and I am sure I miss them just as much as those who lost family who died in the 9/11 attacks.

Why can’t we just miss, honor, and celebrate the lives of those we miss without circus or cultural hyperbole?

Why can’t death be a solemn event of passing and tribute without political debate and posturing?

And…

Why can’t all religions be taken as faith and not as fact? After all…

Faith is much more powerful than fact, and to deny that, is to deny a very fundamental fact of life.

Cheers!!

18 Kids and Counting: The Duggar Family, Huckabee, and TLC, are Freaking Me Out!!

I have mentioned that I don’t watch much TV other than news/political talk shows, sports, and Seinfeld re-runs.

I am even more out of the idiot box loop when it comes to TV reality shows. Hate em’.

Sunday night I was watching my favorite Arkansan (outside of Jay), Mike Huckabee, on FOX News.

Huckabee’s show blows, but I find it to be the Lawrence Welk Show of political punditry offerings, and seriously, watching old episodes of The Lawrence Welk Show is funny.

The Huckster had a family on his show that when I saw them, my mouth became agape…canyon-like…wider than Lindsay Lohan’s legs.

The family? The Duggars. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their 18 kids. I had never heard of these people.

Evidently, Jim Bob, Michelle and their 1 ½ dozen kids have a reality show on TLC…The Learning Channel. It’s called, 18 Kids and Counting, and many of you, unlike me, have heard of it.

A few things came to mind when I saw this congregation of familial fundamentalism. The first thing?

I asked out loud to no one in particular…WTF?

The second thing that came to mind? Who the hell wants to have 18 frickin’ kids? Hell, my mom and dad had nine kids and I thought they were bat-shit crazy for having that many.

The third thing that came to mind…?

Holy Shit…Michelle’s hoo-ha has to be wider than my mouth which was at the time of that thought, lying on the floor approximately 5’7” below my incredibly kissable, yet quivering top lip.

The Huckster interviewed Jim Bob, Michelle and the rest of the Cirque du Duggars, and it became apparent that they thought God was responsible for this ginormous born-again family.

Prayer, God’s blessings, and home schooling led to this gargantuan family that is only a kicker and punter short of a starting football roster.

I don’t fucking think so. God had nothing to do with this.

The God I know would not permit a man from Arkansas named Jim Bob to produce 18 kids with a chick named Michelle who is neither his mom, sister, and/or cousin. Arkansas should now and forever be known as, The Un-Natural State.

God would also not allow the parents to name all 18 kids with a name that starts with the letter “J”.

In honor of God’s son, the J-Man, there is a Joy…a Joshua…and a Jeremiah. How hopeful and biblical. There is also an older daughter named, Jinger. Jinger? With a J?
I went to the Duggar Family website...

Jinger’s favorite hobby is riding horses. I think that between the name Jinger and her penchant for riding horses, I see a pole dancing and/or porn career in Jinger’s future.

Where I am going with all of this? I have no idea. But I do know a couple of things…

A couple who produces 18 kids, is pretty damn crazy.

In fact, Jim Bob and Michelle having 18 kids makes them twice as crazy as my parents.

I know one other thing as well…

Home Schooling may teach a person a helluva lot about Creationism but it doesn’t teach a person one damn thing about birth control.

Cheers!!

Sunday Morning Church Disservice: Out of My Way, I'm a Christian, Dammit!!

It’s a hot, hazy Sunday in Bagwine, Ohio today.

But…I am actually rested up from my “week off” and ready to get back to being myself.

I have to work all day today, but before I go, I have an actual sermon for all of us…Specifically, for all of us “Christians” in the audience.

Something hit me last night at about 9:15 P.M., in between my 14th beer and my second pint of Wild Irish Rose…

Christians, suck.

Now hold on Nellie, not true Christians, but those who profess to be Christians.

I laugh at some of these charlatans such as Rod Parsley, Paul Crouch, Joyce Meyer, and Benny Hinn, but far more dangerous is the hypocrisy that lies within our family, our neighbors, ourselves.

Far too often of late, I have been called a “fucking asshole”, a “jerk”, and a whatever body part one might like up his or her ass…

Typically, I don’t mind these aspersions…in fact, I usually find them funny. But these are words coming from self-professed “Christians”.

I do not proclaim to be anything other than an imperfect being. I make fun of myself on a regular basis…sometimes to a fault.

Why in this day is there a proliferation of people that claim to be Jeebus personified and whine that they are being persecuted?

People who claim to want to help others and yet complain about how their money is wasted on the less fortunate.

People who want eternal salvation for all, but demand a price from others here on Earth.

People who judge others while refusing to look in the mirror…

I have often taken shots at the Little Baby Jeebus, but religion aside, his message is something that everyone should agree upon.

The Golden Rule, The Sermon on the Mount, the sending back of the veal cutlet because it was under done and over priced…

I also like Lao-Tzu, the founder of Taoism. Both LT and JC were wise. No matter your religious bent or not, both ideologies are sound…They were not radicals.

Unless of course, being nice to people is a radical idea.

Amen, and Amen…

And now, our Sunday Serenade...a poem from the late, great, Dad of Matt-Man. From 30 years ago, an illustration of the height of Christian hypocrisy…

Reflections On Northern Ireland

What Christians, we,
on Sunday morn,
who to Christ
lip service give.

In song, in prayer,
we hear His words,
and touch the Book
that holds His Rule.

With wine and bread
we are all fed;
we hail the Cross
to be the Grail.

But darkness comes,
and in His name,
each side is led.

And Christ again
is crucified,
beside the wounded
and the dead.
